BMCC Registration confusion

U.S.A. New York

Dear all,

I was admitted this year to BMCC as a transfer for the Pre-clinical nursing program. So i'm a new student there. Now, I know that registration has already started. I went there right when advisement / registration first started, in April. I went to get advised so I can register but they shooed me away and told me to come back in August and register with the freshmen! I'm scared that all the classes will be filled up soon.

Is it true that I have to wait until august? Because I read in the different posts about BMCC, that you just show up and have to find a good BMCC employee...I've come to realize that not everyone is very helpful or knows what they're doing there =(

Please help. And thank you for all that do!

I also joined the nursing program as a transfer student. They made me register with the fresheman although I had a BA already. It took 1 year to complete the pre clinical requirements and 2 years to complete the nursing program. Just make sure you maintain a 3.7-4.0 GPA and you should have no problem getting ito the program. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

At CUNY schools, registration priorities are given to continuing students and therefore they get earlier registration dates. However,I don't think you need to wait till August to register or it puts you in the same line as those who register last minute.Didn't they send you a letter saying, you can start registering after so n so date.they usually do that because that is when a REGISTRATION STOP is usually lifted off n then you can register.Find that out and don't listen to just one personnel.hope this helps.

hi emille!

any word yet from PBISON???

(sorry !off topic):uhoh3:

I called them last week only to be told,'we are still processing.you should hear from us soon.' i don't know what to take this as,coz this guy I know(who scored lower than me,took the NLN two weeks after I did , received a call for the interview :sniff:. I mean I am very happy for him,but it seems like things are not very organized. I don't know if I should be happy that I haven't received the rejection mail as yet,or what if my file is pending somewhere deep underneath. :innerconf

I am a 3rd year nursing student at BMCC and the same thing happened to me. Even though you're transferring, you are still considered a new student and would have had to register with the freshman anyway. BMCC as a whole knows nothing about pre-clinical students and the nursing dept. in general. You need to go see Mr. Sierra on the 7th floor ASAP!! He will tell you everything you need to know--trust me, no one at that school told me about him and I didn't go see him until it was time to apply to the nursing programs--- BIG MISTAKE - I almost didn't get in. The nursing dept has their own rules, separate from the school. Here is the link for his info: http://stu.bmcc.cuny.edu/directory/lname/lname.php

P.S. - our class also has a website if you need more info or curious to see the material we cover in nursing:

Hey guys,

I am a little bit confused about how BMCC does their admission process for transfer students. I know that they only look at the Pre-clinical nursing courses to get into the Clinical Stage- Eng 101, Psy 100, BIO 425 (which I've already taken already at another CUNY college). As for transfer students, they are given an option to request one time during the first semester of enrollment the removal of transfer credit in one or more of the pre-clinical nursing. Does that mean we're allowed to retake a certain pre-clinical course over just so to improve the grade and not have the credit from the previous college be transferred over to BMCC? (for example, you get a C+ in ANP1 at another college but decide to take it again at BMCC and not have that C+ transferred over) Basically, is it kind of like choosing the pre-clincial courses you want and do not want to count as a transfer credit?

Thanks so much!

You are right! Transfer students will be allowed to retake a class if they don't get a good grade in it. In my case, I have my BBA from BAruch but I received a B- in English class so I'm gonna retake at BMCC. I got an A in Psych so I'm good. So all I really need to take is MAt 104, Chem 121(a pre-req for A&P) and A&P. I actually seen Mr. Sierra the other day; he was okay. I did enough research to know what I should do to be qualified to apply to the BMCC program but actually, he told me that I should receive a 3.8 not a 3.7. I think its wise to just get all A's. And how many seats do the program have? Does anyone know?

Is anyone taking Mat 104 during the summer on Friday in the evenings and Sat and Sundays in the afternoon?

Yes. That's the deal. It's actually a fair thing, particularly if you come from a very challenging undergrad program where As are not the norm. Do not transfer any credit for the four core admission classes (101, A&P1, Psych 101 or MAT104) that is lower than flat A.
