Hello, I was wondering if you could tell me how long after pinning ceremony in January do you take the NCLEX? The reason I'm asking is because I have left my job to focus on school and need to know if my funds will last me through the time it will take me to take the test and ultimately find a job. The evening schedule for the first two semesters are: T and TH 5:45pm-9:15pm for lectures (this changes to M and W for 3and4) Sat 7:45am-4:00pm for Clinical rotation The day program I don't know the exact time for but you will not be able to hold a full time job unless you work a night shift. Most likely you will have to switch to partime. The program is 3 days during the work week. There is a morning section from around 9-1 and then there's an afternoon class from around 2-5. Then the clinical falls on a workday all day. You don't get to choose what section in the day---they raffle off the slots. So in other words they tell you to come in on a specific day, then you choose a number. Depending on the number, you get placed in the morning or the evening. Also, you don't register yourself. You have to get see Mr. **** ****** on the 7th floor- his info is on the BMCC website under the directory. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU GO SEE HIM ASAP--EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVE YET TO APPLY FOR THE NURSING PROGRAM. PRe-clinical students have to follow the nursing dept rules, not the school's. Unfortunately, the school's administrative staff is clueless when it comes to the nursing dept. Trust me, I almost didn't get into the program thanks to their incompetence. For the evening - you can only apply to the program after you have ALL your pre-reqs (chem, A&P 1+2, Psych 1+2, Math, Microbiology, English 1+2) For the day- you can apply after only have the four main pre-reqs ( english, psych, math, anatomy 1) Good Luck:nuke:

I thought the same thing - I had a 4.0 when I entered the Nursing program. When you get there, you'll see. It's like you are going to a different school. The pre-clinical classes are going to seem like pre-school compared to what we cover in nursing -- not just the complexity of the material but the amount. Without exaggerating, it is OVERWHELMING.

If you are going to the evening nursing program at BMCC - forget about A's because the next time you'll probably see one is the latter half of the second semester. The Day program is a different story-A's are possible and the professors are better only because more teachers are willing to teach during the day -- not so much in my case. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying the teachers in the evening are bad teachers, they just don't cut the information into little bite sizes for easy digestion. From day one in fundamentals you are being thrown into real clinical situations and you are expected to think critically from the first lecture. The tests in the evening model themselves after the NCLEX and the teachers don't tell you what to expect from the test. They give you a list of things that might be on the test, but there's no guarantee. In the day, they do tell you what's going to be on the tests and what you can expect. The two programs are like two different worlds even though they are under the same department.

I am a 3rd year nursing student at BMCC and the same thing happened to me. Even though you're transferring, you are still considered a new student and would have had to register with the freshman anyway. BMCC as a whole knows nothing about pre-clinical students and the nursing dept. in general. You need to go see Mr. Sierra on the 7th floor ASAP!! He will tell you everything you need to know--trust me, no one at that school told me about him and I didn't go see him until it was time to apply to the nursing programs--- BIG MISTAKE - I almost didn't get in. Does anyone know the starting salary for Maimonides in Brookly and Elmhurst Hospital in Queens? I'm specifically looking for salary in peds but any info would be great! Thank you
