Hello fellow BMCC nursing applicants,
Anyone applying for Fall 2011? They now require the HESI A2 (I believe the Spring '11 hopefuls didn't need HESI). Does anyone know what the percentages will be for prereq GPA/ overall GPA/ HESI score in determining the rankings?
I'm pretty worried now because I was hoping to boost up my overall GPA from 3.7 to above 3.8 this semester. But finals just passed, and I calculated my grades; I think my GPA is dropping to a ~3.63 because I might receive a C in my Microbio class. I'm considering emailing my professor and requesting some kind of administrative withdrawal instead of getting the C. If somehow I'm allowed the withdrawal, my GPA will become ~3.84. My prereq GPA is ~3.86 (2As, 2A-s).
BMCC is notorious for rejecting 3.8s, let alone 3.7s and lower. Should I rely on acing the HESI or should I contact my professor and hope I get the withdrawal? Or is there a possibility that a 3.7 this sem could get accepted?
Hey Stole238 and the others who have taken/are going to take the HESI,
I too, found it a bit easier than I had anticipated. My A&P questions were moderately hard, and a few of my Reading and Comp. questions were also moderately hard, but overall fairly easy. I had a lot of fractions and proportions on the math. In terms of the critical thinking--yikes! I thought they were pretty tough. Almost all were medically related.
But I am a bit confused about the scores. You can log into evolve http://evolve.elsevier.com using your user name and ID from earlier to view your exam (in case you didn't know). :)
In terms of the scores, there are the Math, Reading Comprehension, and A&P scores. Critical thinking is not included. Then there is your cumulative score: all 3 areas combined. This is given as a %: 90.00%, 95.00% etc. But this is where it gets confusing for me.
Apparently there is a conversion score, which according to the website can range between 0-100. To my understanding this takes into account the questions you were given (you get less points for easier questions and more for more difficult ones) and everyone gets different questions.
Then there is a HESI score which ranges from 0 - 1000 (again, according to their website), and this score may take 24-48 hrs to process after all exams are in (this is according to a thread I saw on another website trying to figure all this out). And lastly, I too have a class average of 76, but I just want to make sure that it is indeed the class average, and not my conversion score. Ugh. That would suck being that I did pretty well overall. So any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I suppose if I'm just patient I'll know all of the scores soon enough. Thanks guys!!
Stole238--congrats!!
I'm not sure what the minimum HESI score is. I've looked too. Although some schools list their minimum scores, BMCC doesn't. And quite honestly, I think emailing is probably a waste of your time. I'm sure Sierra and others in the nursing dept are flooded with emails right about now.
However, if you call and reach someone they may be able to tell you. That might be worth a try.
I guess now it's just a waiting game....
Hey Nowisthetime,
Ideally it would be the end of the month, but I think it usually ends up being the first week of January--at least that's when they contacted people last year.
The one thing I forgot to mention in my post a few minutes ago is that it also depends on which program you applied to. The day program or the part-time nights/weekend program. The part-time program tends to be a bit more competitive than the day program, so I would imagine the requirements are slightly higher??
Good luck!
Sorry let me clarify. I think phone calls go out at the end of Dec. or by the first week of Jan.
In terms of the GPAs and the HESI scores I think that the requirements are slightly higher for the evening/weekend program simply because it's a bit more competitive than the day program. How much more competitive? I don't know. How much stronger GPA's and HESI scores need to be, I'm not sure about that either.
I applied to the day program. Although my HESI score was good, my overall GPA and pre-clinical GPA is slightly lower than what they may hope for. Does this mean I won't get in? Maybe. I don't know. But I definitely am looking at other schools. But let's not throw in the towel just yet. BUT, lets have a backup plan. Now we just wait.
Good luck!!
i just spoke to ND, and they said that they cannot give out any info. that students will know by jan 1st and that they will be looking at everything and combine everything including CT. They hiding a lot of info and I dont know why? so have a blessed christmas and lets hope for the best.
good luck to all.

I took the Hesi today and it was easier than what I expected
reading comprehension the passages are short 55 questions
Math is all basic adding subtracting, proportion which I had a lot multiplication division a couple of percent and a couple of conversions
Anatomy and physiology was all basic nothing major
critical thinking were common sense.
overall it was ok and you get your scores right away
in my group for today there was a 76 percentile which means most of students were in the 75-76 range percentage. I had a 77.33 not counting critical thinking it was not there but I was told I had a score of 900 so I don't understand that part. If somebody could clarify me that.
well hope everybody did well.
