Hi Everyone!
I was wondering if anybody has taken or planning to take the Biomedical Statistics course at National University (NSG 322)?
I am planning to take the class online, but am a little nervous on how easy/hard it will be to do via computer. I'm fine when it comes to taking classes that are straightforward conceptual where you pretty much just read and memorize.
Any advice will be helpful )
Thanks!
Hi, I'm planning to take biomed statistics class at national university in san diego. I'm very nervous, especially because I'm terrible at math. Can anyone tell me if it was hard/easy, what to look for. Also any recommendations on which instructor is the best for this class at national?
Thanks!
@Afshinkam: I just completed biomedical statistics at National (Lightwave Campus). I got an A- and I am not great at math. The class was online and in-class; the first week you re-learn terms like mean, median, mode, range, kurtosis, and learn other terms about specific types of data (nominal, ordinal, etc.) The second week is where things get tough...regression, t-tests, p-values, probability (limited), distribution, etc. Make sure you really understand what is being taught in week 2 because it doesn't get any easier, especially in the final week (week 3 you are only learning one chapter vs. the normal four you learn in any other week).
Understanding how Excel works with charts and graphs is helpful and knowing what makes something "statistically significant" is also very important because it is brought up A LOT during the course. My teacher always stressed that he wanted to focus on evaluating data versus just plotting it. You won't have to do a lot of calculations other than basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and thankfully there are many online tutorials that are given to you that show you how to set up certain graphs and tables (also lectures are available for downloading and make up a big part of the tests). The book (Pilot) is helpful (and slightly drab and colorless) and the answers for most of the homework are located in Appendix C in case you need to cross-reference your problems.
The tests, projects, and final were all open note, open book, and online, so you could take it by the due date at your leisure. If you can pace yourself each week, do the homework, and put some time in you'll do fine. Good luck!
Hi, the class wasn't horrible. Are you familiar with excel? The majority of your work will be done using excel. The book is a bit boring but my prof. was very helpful as well as my classmates. I would also look up information on youtube which was very helpful. I took the class online and the quizzes and final were open book. You can definitely pass with a good grade if you put in a little effort. Good Luck to you!
Is anyone registered to take NSG 322 online in November/December 2011? I have the books and I am not that great with excel...just know the basics and math I am okay at, just okay. Anyone who has already taken this class have any words of advise?????
I am so nervous about this class. It has to be easier than anatomy and physio!
@zannica I am registered for NSG 322. I am not looking forward to it - just want to get it over with but will do my best to get an A. I detested statistics when i took it so I'm not expecting to enjoy this but like said will make the most of it. I can't believe how much this short class costs - what a racket.
Hi!
I am new to this forum and hope it's ok to ask about tutoring nursing students. Specifically, I wanted to ask where I should post to offer private tutoring in statistics courses for Nursing students. I have taught MSN students in grad school at the university, but found that I really enjoy working one-to-one. I see some people on this list who are looking for tutors in this subject as well as math courses. Should I post in forums at each school or is there a better way to contact students needing help? Thank you, Elizabeth
