Biomedical Statistics National University

Published

Hi Everyone!

I was wondering if anybody has taken or planning to take the Biomedical Statistics course at National University (NSG 322)?

I am planning to take the class online, but am a little nervous on how easy/hard it will be to do via computer. I'm fine when it comes to taking classes that are straightforward conceptual where you pretty much just read and memorize.

Any advice will be helpful :o)

Thanks!

So it looks like I have to take Bio stat at NU-LA, does anyone know how long this class takes? and how many A&P classes do they need exactly? I have 4 units Anatomy, 4 units Physio and 5 units microbio taken from cc, will that e enough to cover the prereqs? Also I had my BS ten years ago and was wondering if anyone knows if that matters for the english and psych, socio requirement. Please help! thanks.

You can get Bio stat class either at NU or UCLA. At NU it is one month online course. Regarding to the Prerequisites, you can see /www.nu.edu/OurPrograms/SchoolOfHealthAndHumanServices/Nursing/Programs/BSNAcceleratedPostBachelor.html

Thanks NU2010!

I am planning to take the class in the LA campus because I don't do well with online classes. Can anyone tell me how the schedule for this class is like? Is there a night schedule for this? I might be taking it end of September and I am a little nervous because I have two other classes I am taking at a local cc at the same time. I figured since it is only a month long, the classes meet everyday. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I'm starting the biomed stats class online in Feb...but I'm a little nervous about doing it online as well. I'm great with math, but I'm more of a "learn by seeing" kind of girl.

Getting EXCITED THOUGH!!!

Hello,

I'm currently in the biostatistics class in San Diego and I'm having a rough time. I'm staying afloat for now but I'm afraid my grade will decrease. Is there anyone that has taken the class before that would be willing to help me out? I'm on my last two weeks of the class I don't want to fail. The proffessor doesn't have time to meet with students other than class breaks. Please, can anybody help? I'm in Dr. Lembergs class. I will be forever grateful for the assistance.

Thanks!!

I've taken upper and lower division stats, and this class is HARD. The first week isn't that bad, but then you get into doing t tests, CIs, etc. and it gets really hard. One question we had to answer had to do with calculating the odds of someone winning a Texas Hold 'Em hand with certain cards showing and 2 cards unturned. Sounds like an easy probability calculation, but it took me about 5 hours to figure out, because it's not a straight probability calculation.

Hey everyone!

Big Question: I go to school at CSULB and a Kinesiology major. I took Intro to Stats (Psy 210) which is a required class for Kinesiotherapy majors. I read the syllabus for the Intro to Stats and the description to BioStats and they seem VERY similar. I talked to one of the admissions over at NU in Costa Mesa and she said that I could possibly submit a petition for substituting the class.

We used SPSS, ANOVA, Hypothesis testing, Probability and sampling, T-test for related and independent samples.

Are those some of the subjects you are all learning? If so then the class I took at CSULB is similar to BioMeds.

Here is what the course description on my CSULB syllabus vs the one on the NU site.

1) How to think critically about empirical and other ways of knowing the natural and social worlds.

2) How to use technology to analyze data – calculator, computer and software programs such as SPSS.

3) Understanding the rationale behind the various statistical procedures

4) Describing data sets using appropriate descriptive statistics.

5) Understanding the appropriate uses and interpretations of inferential statistical methods.

6) The appropriate uses and interpretation of correlational and regression analyses.

7) The protocols and customs of presenting and interpreting research results and statistical analyses.

8) The limitations of the various statistical procedures.

and here is NU's course description:

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

1. Define and appropriately use the terminology of research.

2. Determine the appropriate statistical procedures for specified data sets and research designs.

3. Demonstrate commonly used descriptive and inferential statistical procedures using computer software where appropriate.

4. Describe the advantages and limitations of statistics in analyzing and interpreting data

COURSE CONTENT:

1. Univariate statistics

2. Bevariate statistics.

3. Probability sampling.

4. Hypothesis testing.

5. ANOVA, simple linear regression

Yup, same stuff. I just took NSG 322.

You can petition, but there's a 95% chance they won't accept it, I tried to petition for 2 college level upper division stats classes along with a Psych stats class, which all did the same things. They denied them all and said I had to take their class...though I won't say here, I'm sure you know why.

Oh jeez... Which NU are you at? And where/when did you try to petition at?

San Diego. Plus in my class you need a 96% or higher for an A, 90-95% is an A-

Tried to petition right before I took this class.

Hi,

I took intro to stats at City College last year and am going to be taking biostats starting next week at National in San Diego. My professor is ----. Anyone have any tips or suggestions for a good grade?? I'm not that good at math but did pull a B in regular stats. Thanks!

actually jake12345 biostats at national was fairly easy its alot of calculations but its nothing too demanding. i just got out of the class this past june and passed with an A. (nu fresno campus) i suggest that you just pay close attention in class, ask any questions that may come across if you didnt understand, and always look over your work. its all about step by step word problems. you will do great if you just stay focused!!! blessings to u!!
