Biology Spring 2010

Published

hey everyone,

i see threads for micro and a&p, so i figured why not make one for those of us who are taking general biology this semester. i'm really, really excited about taking it and i thought it would be cool for us to have a place to talk about it in case we get stuck.

hope to be hearing from people.

Thank you so much, I assumed as much but wasn't 100% sure.

So I just took my first test this past week. I felt like I did well then I got it back...I am looking at maybe a low C :uhoh3:. How is everyone studying for their tests? I feel like I understand the content and then I get a test question and it all goes out the window!

Specializes in Critical Care.

Just wanted to say good luck to all of you and if you ever have any Bio. questions, feel free to PM me. I've taken the class and I used to tutor it so I could be of some help. My biggest tip is flashcards, flashcards, flashcards (among other things). I hope you all do awesome :)

In case you are thinking the books are too expensive, go to WWW.chegg.com and rent it for the semester. It is a lot cheaper to rent your textbooks. If it is a book you want to keep, buy it second hand from amazon.com or ebay, etc. But as someone mentioned there is an access key in the front to online reources that you may not be priviledged to if you buy it second hand or rent it.

I have also found textbooks on craigslist for a lot cheaper than the used price at the bookstore. And I have also sold some on there as well and got a better deal than what the school wants to give back.

I'm a previous Biology major who just switched to nursing. I'll chime in once awhile to help u guys out.

Specializes in None, but plan to be well trained in all.

Hey guys... Here is my update!

My first day was on the Monday and I have to say I'm in for a challenge lol

the proffessor put everything out on the table and said if you don't want to work your in the wrong class! I have the class two days a week and every Monday we have a quiz and at the end of the term I have a ten page research paper due...ten pages of writing. For my lab I also have a quiz every class and that is one day a week for me. So next Monday is the first quiz and this Thursday first lab quiz... I'll keep you posted! Keep your head up Kygreen13 it's just the beginning you have time to get the material! Keep on mind there are lots of people HERE willing to help you;-)

p.s.

I'm going over living things basically the different kingdoms and natural selection

I have my first exam on monday and im kinda nervous. We took a 10 question quiz, which wasnt too bad and i did great on but im not so sure about the 50 question exam that covers 3 chapter. So far we've covered the organization of living things, atoms, ions, bonds, and molecules of life. Yeah this will be interesting.

Has anyone found a good bio website or an god hint for studying?? Im doing flash cards and that seems to help.

Specializes in Emergency Nursing.

I took it in the fall, it was a very fun class, basically a moderately in depth cytology survey with a section on biochemistry and quite a significant period of time spent on ATP synthesis (which makes sense since so much of medicine is about correcting metabolic and homeostatic imbalances).

It was a very good preparatory science class and was very effective in weeding out people without much scientific aptitude or interest and who might have some, erm, misconceptions about what a nursing education entails.

Essential as a prerequisite for A&P, IMO.

Totally agree with your entire post!

This class isn't a intro class is it? How many units is this

The title of the class I took was "Foundations of Cellular Biology" it was introductory in the sense that, at my school, it was a 110 level class, but it was certainly a step beyond the survey level. 3 hours a week with an additional 2 hour lab. 3 credits (+1 for the lab).

Not sure what you mean by "Introductory"...

:)
