Biology Spring 2010

hey everyone,

i see threads for micro and a&p, so i figured why not make one for those of us who are taking general biology this semester. i'm really, really excited about taking it and i thought it would be cool for us to have a place to talk about it in case we get stuck.

hope to be hearing from people.

hey

i also will be taking biology this spring, and i can't wait to get started

Thanks for starting the thread!

I am taking Bio this Spring for the second time around. Waited too long to decide to go back to school for nursing and my science classes are now more than 5 years old.

Here's hoping a lot of the material comes back to me once classes start!

When does class start for everyone and how many days a week do you take it? I start on the 11th and I take it on MWF.

I am taking it as well. I am using the book - Biology by Campbell. I am excited to start. It should be very interesting. I go on Tuesdays. I also found a book - Biology 101 by Sparks Notes to be very concise and helpful. I started reading about Atoms and covalent bonds etc.

Our college accepts BI 101 or BI 55 as a prerequisite for BI 103 (A & P). BI 101 has a lecture and lab and is worth 4 credits. BI 55 is a little over an hour twice a week with no lab, and is not worth any credits but they charge it as a 3 credit class. So it is cheaper than BI 101 and not as big a time commitment. It presents "basic science concepts". Anyway, I chose that.

my first day back isnt until the 28,and biology is two days aweek(mon, wed).

my lab is on a thurs.if nothing changes the text of choice is biology 10 edition by mader, the cost of this book is nearly $200! keep in mind i still have 3 other classes

My classes start on the 27 and are 2 days a week. Monday is Bio Lab and Wednesday is lecture.

I am also taking Chem 101 wuth Lab and Discussion on Wednesdays and Thursday.

I did this exact same thing last semester. I had chem and bio, and I am glad that I did. I believe it helped a lot when it came to taking the Hesi.

The book we have is Mastering Biology by Campbell. My school doesn't make us do a bio lab just a lecture.( I don't know if thats a good thing or a bad thing?) We start taking labs when we get into microbio.

That is the same book we used(8th edition). We had labs and lecture though. If you get the book new there is a product key inside for an online resource area. I used the online, the book, as well as notes from the lecture. I feel that the online helped. Good Luck! : )
