  1. Congrats girl....I wish I was in your shoes.......
  2. What in particular do you love about it so much....I am just curious.
  3. All of you guys who are responding so negatively to the original question are offended because subconsciously you are ashamed of what you do. You really think it is a degrading job and you imply that the person is a goody too shoes and should go back to engineering because you are jealous and probably have nothing to fall back on - hence you are stuck wiping butts. Now do not start on me - everyone is entitled to their opinions, also I have a tough skin.
  4. Hi, Ignore those people. You have to do what is in your heart. My advice is to go right on with it. Do not put it off. It will be stressful with a baby or without a baby. You just need to think that by doing nursing you are providing a better future for you and your family. You do not want to be in the position 10 years from now thinking, I should have done nursing a lot earlier. GO FOR IT. You can do it!!!
  5. I am a pre nursing student and I currently work in the corporate world. I can understand your hesitation. Cleaning poop and vomit was/is one of my reservations. However I have asked other experienced nurses and some nursing students and they said that you get use to it. It becomes a non-event. I have not done it yet, but when the time comes I am going to think about what a good deed I am doing for this person. It is not as enjoyable as completing a spreadsheet at my current job, but it will bring a better reward afterward. Good luck. You are not lazy as suggested by the other posts. You have concerns and this is the perfect time to do a reality check.
  6. In case you are thinking the books are too expensive, go to WWW.chegg.com and rent it for the semester. It is a lot cheaper to rent your textbooks. If it is a book you want to keep, buy it second hand from amazon.com or ebay, etc. But as someone mentioned there is an access key in the front to online reources that you may not be priviledged to if you buy it second hand or rent it.
  7. I am taking it as well. I am using the book - Biology by Campbell. I am excited to start. It should be very interesting. I go on Tuesdays. I also found a book - Biology 101 by Sparks Notes to be very concise and helpful. I started reading about Atoms and covalent bonds etc.
  8. Hi, Nursing will be a second career for me. Currently I have a decent salary, however, I am changing because I have always wated to be a nurse. I am not going into nursing for the money, however in making this career switch, I have often wondered if it is a wise idea economically. Having said all of that, my question is in orlando, Florida, what is the average salary for 1) a New RN 2) a clinical specialist. Thanks in advance.
  9. Did you make the change? I have been contemplating for a very long time. I still have not made the change. I think I am going to go for it though.
  10. Thank you.
  11. Private schools are a lot more expenseive for e.g $27,000 vs $5,200 at Seminole community college. I would go SCC. Since you guys live in the Central florida area, do you know approximately how much do nurses make in the central florida area. Also how much do agency nurses make per hr? I am new to this forum and I am not sure if you can discuss salary information.
  12. My Aunt, a former nurse says it is a lot of hard work, my husband thinks the pay is not that great and my sister thinks that there are lots of unpleasant tasks involved. Of all of these, the pay is the only aspect that can seriously deter me from going into the profession. I am doing some research to see what the salary is like. Every state has different ranges. I am in florida and each time I research I get different numbers.
  13. Hi, i have the same problem. I really want to be nurse but have been having a hard time making a decision. My sister, my aunt who was a nurse and my husband does not think it is a good idea. However I think i am going to go for it. At the end of the day, you have to do what makes you happy.
