Hi, Im a sophmore nursing student in a BSN program and trying to decide on my career route. I have a friend who told me that nurses that become xray technicians make 60K-65k a year but thats all they told me about it. I was hoping someone can give me more information about this. For example, Do you have to have an associates degree (beyond your RN degree) from some kind of Xray tech program? What duties do you have in this kind of position and how much do you start off making (rough figure) right out of school being an RN and being an xray tech OR do you need to work your way up the ladder to this position? On a side note I've been thinking about attending physicians assistants school if I do fairly well in my BSN program. However, I would like to find other educational opportunities besides grad school like certificates and 2yr community college degrees that can further my career and opportunities as a nurse without paying through the nose or risk "not having what it takes" to making it through a grad program. Any input from someone who has knowledge or experience in this area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Maybe if I can find my roomates that are as studious as me and I can have my own room to study in it can work though...... The camper van may be an option also .... Thanks for the input.

Hi, I'm a BSN student who is struggling to pay for school and living expenses. I dont really have anyone I can stay with so I have to find a way to pay for my own place. I've tried HUd but they have a waiting list that has been closed because it is so long. I could drop to part time and work more hours but everyone seems to think that would be a bad idea with the way the program is structered.The Only other thing I can think of is joining the military but that is a very large commitment for many years. My question is does anyone know of any other ways I can pay for my housing and schooling such as grants scholarships or anything at all that I may be eligible for being a full time nursing student in a BSN program. (I already have my FAFSA award so that is not an option)

elizabeth 123>I had a few technician jobs with my associates in engineering but it was "wrench turning jobs" and i was looking for more technical jobs such as designing etc. and couldn't find a job like this. Everyone wanted a bachelors. plus "fixing" or helping people is alot more fullfilling then fixing a machine in my opinion.

to orange juice > Well handling poop has gotten easier I think my main problem is fear of catching something. I think if I educate my self more on what I can catch and can't if I don't handle it properly will relax my nerves a little when I have to wipe a patient again. But for some reason blood, mucouse pee, or anything else doesn't bother nearly as much as cleaning poop and from what I've been told they don't have to tell the CNA's what contagiouse diseases patients are able to transmit to you because privacy laws etc. You just have to use "standard precautions" which i think is unfair because I believe the nurses know so how come CNA's arent privy to that information? Just to sum it up , just in case you guys havn't figured it out my reasons or my main concerns with quote "undesirable CNA duties" (I apologize again) is fear of catching something. Anybody out there with POSITIVE helpful info feel free to reply.

well the reason I wanted to be a cna is to get exposure to hopsital environment and i've been told I could be a sitter where all i do is sit and watch people. I specifically asked them if I had to do pericare and so forth and they said no. I agree i either need to get more used to washing butts or find a nursing job that doesn't entail it or go into a completely different field. But I would always take care of my patients whether some people on here want to believe it or not otherwise i would get a diffrent job. I understand how my question could of been offensive to some but it wasn't meant to be and i apologize it was a bad choice of words. And calling me names like lazy and arrogant is pointless because it doesn't solve any problems. If you really want to keep lazy arrogant people out of nursing offer helpful suggestions and alternatives for them and leave your emotions and name calling out of it. :)

I agree no ones too good to help someone else but i'm just looking for something I will enjoy more while still helping people. I don't see anything snooty about that.

well the only thing that made me squirm really was seeing strangers privates and washing them and cleaning the poop for fear of catching something. I have gotten a little more comfortable with the very smal amount of experience I have had but not fully. mucouse blood etc does not bother me at all.
