Biology and Chemistry summer courses... am I crazy!?!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm currently enrolled in a CC in Missouri and plan to get my RN through their program (Jefferson College, by the way). Well to be accepted into their nursing program, the application is based on a points system: the more pre-req classes you have finished the more points you get, and the better the grade in those classes the higher the point value. Well so far things look well, but I'm striving for the most points I can get and at the highest value possible. I'm hoping to apply for the Fall 2010 clinicals so I will have one more year to get some more points with more pre-reqs. But the only points that will count for my application will be Summer 2009 and Fall 2009, NOT Spring 2010 because by the time they review the applications final grades will not be in. So whatever classes I take Spring 2010 will not be on my appliation. I have finished some of the pre-reqs BUT Chem, Micro, and A&P. I plan on taking Chem this summer (2009) in an accelerated 8 week program, BUT I am wanting to re-take Bio again. I have already taken General Biology in Fall 2007, but received a C that's only worth 3 points and really want an A. The only issue is that if I take this in the summer too, it's also an accelerated 8 week program. After planning out what those weeks would look like in the summer for me, I will be in class from 9:25am-9:40pm Monday-Thursday with lectures and labs AND I work part time!!! I was just wondering what you all thought of this idea and if anyone has ever tried it. Am I crazy!?! And do you think I should maybe take off work for those 2 months I will have these classes? And the reason I want to do Chem AND Bio over the summer and not just one and then the other in the fall semester is because I would like to finish those and then start Fall 2009 with A&P and Micro. Am I crazy for that too!?! HELP!!! I have never been more serious about anything, though, until nursing! I want this so bad and am willing to do whatever it takes! PLEASE HELP, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!!! :banghead:

Thanks,

hey mn,

you sound very dedicated. if you can afford to take off work for two months to concentrate on your studies----go for it. there is nothing crazy about setting high and realistic goals. anything worth having, is worth making sacrfices ...good luck, and don't lose the motivation, in the end it will pay off!:clphnds: my hat goes off to you.

the only difference is that i will not be working (Thank God)

But whatever...If you really want something...YOU CAN DO IT! :D

What about taking a different class and having BOTH points go towards it rather than just the higher bio one? Hope that makes sense.

well... im taking microbio and ap2 in the summer both are 4weeks each.... so thats 2 months...

BEAT THAT

lol lol, its good to see theres other crazy people out there with me

I myself LOVE summer classes! I love that you can work really hard and get them over quickly! HOWEVER, I would just say be careful because if you stretch yourself too thin, your grades will suffer and then you're back at square one. Good luck whatever you decide!!! :yeah:

it can go both ways...[1] you retain info easier, and test grades are better [2] you can keep up..and your tests well...academic suicide basically.

thanks for all the replys! i just dont kno if i can afford taking off work for those 2 months, but im goin to try and save up so i can do that bc i think that will help me a lot! i guess we will see! thanks everyone!!!

Good luck, I'm not brave enough to do that! Between work and my kids, nuh uh! That's a work load, but I've known people who have done it and got pretty good grades.
