"And another question - trump & the gop pushed through the 2017 tax cut which didn’t make sense economically. Why supercharge an economy that is not in recession? Increase the deficit while reducing gov revenue."

"Why supercharge an economy?" "Reducing gov revenue??" What are you talking about? After the tax cuts the government collected record revenue/taxes. Maybe that's because businesses were able to expand operations and hire more people since the government was taking less of their money.

From the article, "The Treasury Department reported this week that individual income tax collections for FY 2018 totaled $1.7 trillion. That's up $14 billion from fiscal 2017, and an all-time high. And that's despite the fact that individual income tax rates got a significant cut this year as part of President Donald Trump's tax reform plan."

It's clear you don't know how economics work. More regulations and more taxes equal less business and less growth. When the government takes less money from businesses and individuals those entities can choose to invest or spend as they see fit. Why would you want the government to have more of your money, do you think they can spend it wiser than you?

K, I’ll concede that revenue from individuals did go up But why did it? You imply it was the cuts. However “Together, faster economic growth and increased numbers of Americans earning higher incomes led to increased individual tax collections in 2018, even though most Americans are seeing their effective individual income taxes decline when compared to what they would have paid on the same incomes in the 2017 tax year.”

The details are at https://blog.independent.org/2019/04/19/why-2018-federal-tax-collections-rose-even-though-corporate-tax-revenue-fell/

Although there’s this -“but with American businesses and consumers paying a portion of the increase through higher prices.

Tax collections from U.S. corporation income taxes fell by $88 billion as a direct result of the tax reform, but overall, the U.S. government collected some $5 billion more in taxes in 2018 than it did in 2017 because of the way its other major sources of revenue from its taxes increased to offset this reduction.”

So, when all was said & done, rev went up $5b. We’ll see how 2019 compares. And the numbers truly point out individuals paid more while corps paid less.
