- bicillin® l-a is intended for intramuscular injection only. do not inject into or near an artery or nerve or intravenously. do not admix with other intravenous solutions.2
- bicillin® l-a should be administered by deep, intramuscular injection in the upper, outer quadrant of the buttock. in neonates, infants, and small children, the midlateral aspect of the thigh may be preferable. when doses are repeated, vary the injection site.2
because of the high concentration of suspended material in the syringe, inject at slow steady rate im as above.

bicillin la (penicillin g benzathine) used for treatment syphillis while bicillin cr ( penicillin g benzathine and penicillin g procaine) used for moderately severe to severe infections of the upper-respiratory tract, scarlet fever, erysipelas, and skin and soft-tissue infections due to susceptible streptococci.
dosing and formulation are different but administration im is the same.
when inverting syringe for injection, air bubble will be at top and used to prevent tissue leakage. length of action is 4-5 days as slow release preparation.

Re: Bicillin prefilled syringe. I read online that you should not push air from the needle prior to injection because it could compromise visualization of blood during aspiration. This is due to the thickness of med. I asked a doc friend about this and he said it should be pushed out prior to injection. Would someone with experience in administering Bicillin prefilled share?
