BHSN-Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing Fall 2011

Started a new thread, since the other threads on this topic look like they are from last year.

Okay,

I just got my acceptance letter in the mail today!!

I was going totally mental with anxiety, checking this board several times a day to see when people were hearing back, compared to when they had applied and what their stats were. I was also very nervous about how I had done on the TEAS, so I wanted to post my info to help other people a little. Here are my stats:

I applied to the school January 4th, 2010. I took the TEAS January 23rd, 2010.

Previous BA degree in anthropology. I graduate in August of 2009 with a 3.46 cumulative GPA.

I took A&P I last fall, at Gateway: B

Developmental Psych: A

TEAS: 81.2% (mean national was 72.8% and the mean for the program 73.3%)

My adjusted individual scores were as follows:

Reading: 82.5%

Math: 82.2%

Science: 70%

English: 85.5%

In all my nervousness, I called two days ago and was told that I would likely hear back from the in school 4-6 weeks. Then I got my letter today, February 5th. For the record, my admissions essay was based on a CNA training course I took in the fall and I also think that having a previous BA really helped, especially in seeing past that nasty 70% in the science section of the TEAS.

Good luck and I hope this information was helpful, or at least of interest, to some of you!!

Hi Lestelle, I am also scheduled for the same date and time!! Perhaps we can meet up in the parking lot or something beforehand. :)

Hello everyone! I'm a newbie to this site and am glad to have found these posts. I too have been accepted to BHSN. Congrats to everyone who has made it in so far and I hope those waiting get great news soon. My orientation is set for June 24 at 400 PM. I am flying out for the orientation and moving to CT from CA in mid August. Hope to see you all soon!

Welcome to AN Andy! :welcome: Congrats on your acceptance as well!

Wow, that is quite the move. Is it just for school or are you relocating here permanently? What made you decide on BHSN?

My aunt lives near Danbury. I started looking into programs in CT because I was looking for another adventure. CA doesn't have any diploma programs anymore. CA is crazy tough to get into programs and its not like I have a 2.0. I wish the programs here would interview instead of concentrating on GPA. I am really looking forward to the move. So happy to at least be in a program and BHSN was my first choice on my second round of applications. (a more recent discovery) BHSN has an incredible program. The clinical time alone is worth its weight in gold. Great passing rate on NCLEX too! I flew out for one of the academic sessions last November and was hooked immediately. I currently work at a local level II trauma hospital in the OR in northern California. They want me to hurry back after I get my RN and complete the perioperative program. I will wait until I graduate to see where my next adventure will take me...

Sounds great! That is so nice that you have a job waiting for you if you decide to go back. What type of position do you currently have in the OR? I would love to work in the OR some day, which is why I was interested in going the CRNA route. I've also been contemplating NP. I guess I could always look into first assist too.

I work on all scheduling for 9 ORs, add cases, run the surgery board when my charge nurse is in meetings (alot!), round up equipment and coordinate transport to get the patients into the OR. I am running all day long. Phones are ringing constantly with surgeons adding cases, upset when we run behind and so on. I get to observe too and this is really interesting when we have a trauma come in. When we have patients from the floor come to surgery I greet them and make sure they are comfortable until the nurse and anesthesiologist interviews them. I help move and position patients as well. I love my job though. I wish I could find something similar part time during the program. At our hospital the assists I see are either PAs that work in the surgeons' offices or MDs. I haven't seen any NPs assist. Our hospital doesn't recognize first assists but I know one nurse who is a first assist and she assists with her husband who is the surgeon. Great team! I am also interested in the first assist program. I know another nurse who is going through the first assist program now. I'll keep you posted.

Have you heard anything about BHSN renting the dorm rooms? I was hoping to go that route but Florence says they might not offer rooms anymore. I am so excited to start our program! I am moving out in mid August. Do you live close to the program?

Wow, sounds like you do a lot! That is such great experience! What's your title? I hope to get a student nurse position after our first semester.

I have heard about the dorms, but I recently heard from someone that they are doing away with them. I just moved back to CT from NYC. I'm a 30 minute drive now from the school.

Definitely keep me posted about the first assist program!

Andy, if they don't offer rooms and you need to find an Apartment, send me a PM and I can give he scoop on the cheep but safe areas close to and around school. I live in Bridgeport, and while much of he city is dumpy, there are some decent safe areas with relatively inexpensive rents. Congratulations on the program, will see you at orientation.

hello everyone!

i got a call today and she asked if i still was interested to be on the wait list. she told me that they are going to make a decision about my application and by the end of the week i will know either way if im accepted or not. so only a couple more days!! i cant wait.. i really hope i get good news!!

That's great news! My fingers are crossed for you! Good luck!!!! Let us know when u find out. :)

wannabenurrsse....I have my fingers crossed for you too! Think positive thoughts!

Lestelle84, thanks for the info. As of now, I think I will stay with my aunt although she lives 45 minutes away from Bridgeport. I have had worse commutes than that. When I come out for orientation I will check out the options. Thanks again for the help. See you soon!
