Letter or email. The sooner everybody knows the better. So, I say email your NM or DON then cc HR and cc your own email address. Be sure to be nice, say thank you for the opportunity...blah, blah, and state the exact date you want to have as your last working day. Give 2 weeks to them of notice, no matter what you have to do to get through it.
A letter of resignation gives you a written record and a certified mail, return receipt, even better evidence that you did resign rather than the other way around. You would be surprised how many employers like to put an untruthful spin on your departure. Best to have proof that you resigned.
As has been previously stated, the correct procedure is a formal letter detailing your intention to resign and the length of notice you are giving, eg 24 hours, two weeks, one month etc.
I, however, given the lack of love between myself and my current employer, look forward to the day when I can send them a picture of the Digitus Impudicus with the immortal words "I Quit" underneath...
Before you quit make sure you have another job lined up as it seems the whole nursing shortage thing is a crock of you know what!
Yeah, I'm working on that.... I'm not sure I'm gonna take another nursing job just yet. Since I'm an LVN, the only thing I can do is home health, private duty or ltc. I don't mind the home health and private duty at all, just super weary of employers right now since I've been put thru h*ll with this one. I'm thinking of taking a break and going back to coaching competitive gymnastics!
