Best Things About being a LPN

Published

I will be graduating in May, and alot of times people focus on the negatives in nursing. I would like to know what are the best things about being an lpn? :loveya::redbeathe:heartbeat

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

Money is an important issue to me, so that's my focus will be (I never said I was a selfless angel of mercy). :)

Although I possess a diploma of vocational nursing that took only 12 months to attain, I am earning more money than many people with BAs and MAs. Therefore, a good aspect of being an LPN is the fact that the earning potential is good when compared to others who possess the same years of education.

Being able to help someone is probably the best part of the job. Being an advocate for someone who can't help themselves. When you can be the one making sure someone who is close to the end make a peaceful journey over. Holding a ladies hand when she's crying because she can't find her kids and her adult kids don't realize why she can't recognize them in front of her. Everyone finds their own niche. The one thing they are good at in this job. And its not just about the money, although in this recession its a good job to have.

Specializes in LTC, Memory loss, PDN.

To be entrusted with so much.

A banker gets the key to the safe.

A manager gets the key to the plant.

A nurse gets the key to life.

Specializes in Community Health, Med-Surg, Home Health.

I like obtaining knowledge about the disease processes, medications and treatments so that I can share it with interested patients in terms simple for them to understand. 99% of the time, by the time I explain to them what is happening, they say "Oh...that's it...and what is your name? No one took the time to give an explanation that I can understand".

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.

I get jazzed just by being able to say that I'm a nurse when someone asks what I do. :)

Having 15 WONDERFUL years of experience in preparing to be an RN!

Specializes in Sub-Acute.

I agree with Jules A. I just love it when folks ask me what I do for a living. I'M A NURSE! The greatest feeling in the world.

I am so excited about the future. Thanks for all the posts.
