I work in pulmonology and I went ahead and bought the cardiology II to make sure I didn't miss any lung sounds. Honestly I haven't noticed a huge difference. It's not the stethoscope. Careful listening and experience are what matter in the long run. At the same time though I do feel more secure with the cardio (whether that's rational or not) so go ahead and get the best steth you can afford so you feel you are making the best possible effort.
I used the Littman Lite during my first and second semester of clinicals. My preceptor uses Littman Cardio III and he would hear even the faintest sound. He would often ask me what I heard and I would tell him nothing abnormal but he would say there is this and that. I finally decided to buy the Cardio III and it made a huge difference on what I hear. Later, I would like to upgrade to Littman electronic. :)

Hello,
I'm about to accept a position for an inpatient role-very excited! I lost my old Littman SE stethoscope in the midst of clinical rotations. Which stethoscope is best? Should I just spend the $$ for the Littman Cardiology III? My role is not in cardiology and will be used for basic pre-procedural assesment.
What has been your choice?
