Best South Florida Hospitals for New Grads

Published

Hi, I will be graduating from an out-of-state accelerated BSN program in the coming months and moving to South Florida soon after. Since I haven't had any clinicals in the area, I am looking for information on the best hospitals for new grads in the Broward, Miami-Dade or Palm Beach areas. I have done some research and am considering Baptist's new grad residency program, but was wondering if there are any other hospitals in the area that are new grad-friendly and give good orientation/training if they don't offer a residency. I could always start as a PCA when I get down there to get a feel for a particular hospital's environment, but since I will be an RN by that point, I would prefer being hired for nursing. Thank you in advance for any opinions or tips!

Honestly? Whereever will hire you. Apply everywhere and cross your fingers. South Florida is an incredibly tough job market to break in on compared to some other areas. We have a glut of new nurses, not a shortage.

Thank you! Unfortunately I have been reading that is the case. I plan on applying all over!

I was planning on working in SRQ area. Does anyone know the need for new grads down the coast to Naples?

Specializes in Emergency, home health, urgent care.

I recently moved into Palm Beach County a few weeks ago. I love it here! I've been job hunting in the area for a bit. I landed a good job yesterday in Boca Raton! Anyways, I know that Broward healthcare system is hiring. They just had a hiring event in Deerfield Beach. Here in Palm Beach County, the major hospital employers are Tenet and HCA East. I would look into their career sites and apply. Don't bother taking a PCA job unless you are very desperate for cash. You should get in somewhere with a BSN. You may have to take a night shift position, or start out as per diem/casual to get your foot in the door.

This is a population dense area, and it is true that there are a lot of nurses here, but also there are a lot of jobs too. It also helps a lot here to know Spanish. If you don't already, make it a priority. Some employers even require this here. Good luck!

I am an RN only have an ADN right now. I read HCA being not so great. I am fair with Spanish tho not fluent.

Unfortunately WPB is on the opposite coast of where I want to be. I plan on brushing up on my Spanish as well and thanks for the tip.

Hi!! I am also planning to move to South Florida in January! Were you able to get a job in South Florida? How long did it take you? Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

I would say the market is better now, this week only I had 4 interview scheduled, the first I did at JFK gave me an offer the next day, thursday Aventura and they me a verbal offer after the interview with a start date. I ended up choosing JFK because of the pay and a nice sign on bonus. Didn't bother doing the other interviews
