Hey guys so im a pre nursing student and im starting my very first cna job on monday and was curious about the type of joes that you all wear to work???

i am working at a skilled nursing/ assisted living so we do not wear scrubs :(. Polos an kakis which was very discouraging i wanted to finally wear scrubs and feel a part of nursing! Anyways im thinkin nike running shoes?? My only concern is with baths/ showers and water going through them. any suggstions?

Hi congratulations on your new job!!!

As a medical assistant I work 12 hour shifts, when I first started out I purchased so many shoes because I wore them out quick.

I find it strange that your not wearing scrubs, it would be much more comfortable to be doing all your tasks but I recommend having at least 2-3 different pairs. I prefer the Nike running shoes or the Reboks sports since I have never liked the white leather shoes recommended by the school.

Also don't wear the same pair everyday ,if you wear the same pair everyday you wear them down quick. It might seem a bit expensive purchasing 2 different pairs but the shoes will last much longer if you do. Also, purchase some shoe gels and rotate those around that way your heel doesn't form to just one shoe.

Trust me this makes a huge difference. I work at a small family owned practice so I work 12 hour shifts 5 days a week, so I am on my feet a lot!!

Good Luck on your job!

Assisted living facilities typically do not allow scrubs. they make it seem as much like the patients live at home, and scrubs make the residents feel as though they are at a hospital or nursing home (even though they may be).

I recommend asics with the gel insides, there comfy and cheap and feel better than most shoes. I just got two pairs today for $30 each. I like them.

Also, the title of this thread is incorrect. CNAs are not nurses, and that may cause confusion to people.

I think everyone on this website knows that CNAs, LPNs, and RNs are different occupations. Maybe she meant CNA/Nurses, as both are on their feet all day long, or night long, as the case my be.

I went through this too last year, and after a lot of research I settled on Skechers Felix-Keystone. I'm 300 pounds and I never once felt like my feet or back were going to go on strike. I bought them directly from the website.

I wear these, most comfortable pair of shoes I own. They also have lasted well from being on the wards, still looking relatively new.

Also, scrubs aren't always all they are cracked up to be, sometimes I feel like I get to wear pajamas to work other days I feel like I'm wearing a potato sack. A maroon potato sack.

Hahahahahahaha! Oh my gracious, I love it! I always felt like I was wearing a navy blue potato sack in my scrubs for school because a) they had no shape and b) I lost about 45 pounds over the course of the program and was too cheap to order new ones. I enjoyed burning those after graduation.

Smart getting in a HC place now and keep your eyes open when you finish up school, nothing wrong with the non-acute arena. They pay like everyone else!

I got some fresh @ss jordans man because I feel like I need to keep my sneaker game up while on the job. I let my shoes be an extension of myself and my personality. Have some fun with it and get some nice sneaks.
