"how to survive and maybe even love nursing school!: guide for students by students" by kelli dunham has some good info...
books that i recommend to help you through certain classes in nursing school include:
an nclex book...even if you don't know the info you might as well master the method to answering the nclex questions now and save yourself the semesters of frustration and lower test grades trying to figure it out. i recommend "saunders strategies for test sucess; passing nursing school and the nclex exam" and kaplan's nclex books
"saunders nursing survival guide to pharmacology" by mccuistion and gutierrez is really helpful for clinicals and understanding the nursing implication of drugs.
i highly higly recommend "the memory notebook of nursing" by [color=#003399]joann graham zerwekh (author), [color=#003399]jo carol claborn (author), [color=#003399]c. j. miller, the acronyms and pictures are so helpful that many of my professors use them in class to help us.
i hope this is helpful!!!

Since you mentioned you were interested in anything medical than I have two random suggestions...
Better: A surgeon's notes on performance by Gawande
and
Another Day in the Frontal Lobe: A brain surgeon exposes life on the inside by Firlik
Honestly I have only read a couple chapters in each of these, but they both have me hooked.

Nursing Against the Odds by Suzanne Gordon.
If you read this and still want to be a nurse, you really do want to be a nurse!

I'd also have to go with Nursing Against the Odds. Scary, but a must read.
And you can't leave out Notes on Nursing by good old Flo. Its pretty cool how many of her ideas about patient care are still central to our practice today!

I absolutely agree with recommending any book by Suzanne Gordon. In addition to the one mentioned above, there are two others that I would consider 'must-read'
From Silence to Voice: What nurses must communicate to the public
The Complexities of Care: Nursing Reconsidered
Of course all of us find most books written by 'real' physicians to be interesting, but they do not help anyone who is trying to understand nursing - because the authors don't.
