For my first year of nursing school, I used the full-sized Uncalendar. I loved it. So much space to write in everything I needed. I finished it with the end of my third semester.
I'm now going into my second year, and picked one up at Office Depot. The brand name is StudioC. It's super cute and breaks down daily, weekly, and monthly.
I think the hour by hour ones are a bit excessive, especially as a nurse. Clinicals run over, commutes are variable, and you never really know how long studying is going to take. When I was in school, I used a full-sized one that just had the dates. I like the full-sized ones, because they actually let you put in what you need to do. And I always made sure to put things in earlier than they were do, and I always left myself one day a week "spare" where I could finish up whatever I didn't get to finish before.
In the end, I don't think the planner matters. What matters is that you use it and find a way to stick to it. That being said, I do personally like the bluesky weekly planners that are 8.5x11. As you can see, I used them from my freshman year of college all the way to my senior year. XD
here is a follow up question...if you were to design your own planner page as a nursing student what would you put on it that is different than a normal planner? anything? I found the Arc system of disk binder at office max and was thinking of just printing my own pages and creating my own planner.

What's the best planner you've found for school? Preferably a planner I can buy in store.
I start clinicals this quarter and I know I'm going to have to be very strict with my time management!
