graduated about a month ago and would love to get feedback on where the best place to go to get hired..thanks for any input

Try looking at doctor's offices. They will often hire you without experience. Good luck!

There are numerous options for you to start your career. Usually the first choice to start is the nursing home. Then, you can also look into prisons, correctional facilities, hospitals, clinics, doctors office, registry, temp agency, and more. You can work at the private level, county level, state level, and federal level. My first job was in the private setting working for a skilled nursing facility that specialized in psychiatric diagnosis. Now I have moved on to working for the Dept. of Veteran's Affiars (federal level) where I work as an LVN in Mental Health.

Specializes in Critical Care, Med-Surg, Psych, Geri, LTC, Tele,.

I was hired at an assisted living facility as a new grad! Don't forget about ALFs!

I am a RN BSN . My suggestion is try a long term care facility. You get lots of experience I.e. Placing and removing Foley catheters, trachs, Gtubes Jtubes, nephrostomy tubes, post op ORIFS just about everything good experience and always need for nurses

thank you all got a interview at a ltc its for prn but just getting in the door and some experience is my focus will keep yall

I was hired as a private duty nurse as a new LPN grad.

Specializes in Psych, LTC/SNF, Rehab, Corrections.

Take the PRN. Apply for FT or PRN. Experience is experience. You may have to piece together 5 or 6 months experience before a FT spot opens.

Jobs for new nurses? You can do Utilization Review. It's a health insurance desk job. More of a retirement gig but if you find that you dont care for being a conventional nurse, that's an option. I think theres growth in it. Pay seems comparable to LTC but I cant get a dollar amt. The newish nurse who does it is all weird about giving pay info...but she'll ask me how much I earn at the place we share employment as PRNs! Really? Like, dude - just gimme a freakin' range, at least. I couldn't care less about how much that broad's being paid.

You can get on in psych, too. I dont know how things operate in the hospital but LVNs at the State facility and pedi/adolescent psych don't get to do much. Just pass pills and monitor. The latter is paid well,at least. Im a psych LVN but I only care and treat like a 'Real Nurse' ( LOL) because it's geri psych LTC : manage mefical and behavorial issues of residents ranging middle aged to elderly. In our facility (in most LTCs in which Ived worked, LVNs are 'charge' . RNs 'supervise' unless theyre on the floor like us.

You can also do HH and staffing but I wouldnt unless the company gives you some training. They shouldn't just throw you to the wolves and plenty appear to do just that. This was my experience. 'Help' got testy when I did call for assistance. Like "What is it now?" Really, b---? It was my second call! I threw attitude right back because I didnt have time for that. She just needed to shut up and do her g/d job. Some people just try to speak to and treat you any kind of way. As a nurse, I tend to wear my ovaries on the outside. LOL After that, ai just figured things on my own and did what seemed to be best. Got through the shift but I felt very unsafe. Never went back. When youre on site, you are alone. Book smarts wont take you very far. Youre too green to float on your own like that.

thanks everyone got offered a prn at a ltc which is ok by me cuz I need experience and im willing to learn n soak up all I can

ALF= assisted living facility. This is different from an SNF (skilled nursing facility). No I didn't already work there. I'm working full time in the teens per hour. Not very high, but a lot more than I made as a CNA.
