graduated about a month ago and would love to get feedback on where the best place to go to get hired..thanks for any input
can u shed a little light on how was it for yiu in your first day,and how long before you felt comfortable in yiur skin I start on monday and maybe its just nerves but its good to get feedback from someone who know exactly what your going throughThanks mswan! This far it's been a great experience for me as a new grad. Passing meds, doing tx, supervising UAPs, and lots of documentation and communication.
Mswan, keep in mind I am an ultra new grad!! I graduated in November and was hired in December. I started working the floor, orientation, on Jan 1, so I've only been working 1 week.
I really like my job. I've tried to keep my expectations low because in the field of nursing care, especially LTCs, all that glitters is not gold. My unit is a 40 bed dementia care floor in an assisted living facility.
I supervise 4 UAPs (caregivers). All of the administrative staff and administrator nurses leave before 5 and I work until about 11, so I am by myself for most of the shift. (However, I'm in orientation, so there is another person with me now, whose job I'm filling)
Thus far, work is a lot like school. In my school, you were responsible to get the most out of your time by trying to figure out for yourself what the heck is going on. Work is like that, too.
I did my 2 med passes and treatments on time yesterday pretty much by myself so I'm pretty proud of myself. I've worked hard my first week to learn most of the residents names.
Every shift, there's some charting to be done and usually also physician communication that needs to be done. Incident reports and calls to the families are about every other day.
One of the hardest things is getting used to working this shift. I get off around 11 and don't feel sleepy as soon as I get home. I wake up around 8-10am and only enjoy a few hours of the day before I have to get ready to go back to work. It's just an adjustment.
