best online Healthcare Admin degree

Published

I am brand new to this forum, so please excuse me if I am doing everything wrong.

I am a RN with an Assoc Degree. I have been a nurse for a long time, but have a long-time goal of having a BS degree. I am NOT looking for a RN to BSN program. I am looking for an online BS in a health related field...like Healthcare Administration/Management, Health Sciences, Public Health, etc. Please recommend some programs for me. I am looking for a quality program, that I can complete quickly, and that is fairly priced.

I will most likely pursue a BS in Healthcare Admin/Mgmt unless you have other advice for me. I have 114 credits in all...because I went back to school when my kids were young to teach history and then stopped to go back to work. I have 77 credits in math, English, history, science, etc. I want a school that will accept a lot of transfer credits!

I am a busy working adult (like most everyone) with kids at home. Flexibility is important. I would love to find a program where I can take just one course at a time! I suppose what I really need is a degree completion program.

Your advice is valuable to me. Thank you for your responses!

Here's the problem- those Healthcare admin degrees are fairly worthless. With all the credits you've accumulated- why not do an RN-to-BSN degree at Online University | Online Degree Programs | WGU ? I was in a similar situation (BS in Liberal Arts and an associates in nursing) and I only needed 23 credits at WGU (which I completed in six months for $3250) to get an accredited BSN. BSN will take you a LOT more places than Healthcare Admin- trust me.

What are you expecting a BS in healthcare administration to do for you professionally? As mean notes, they are pretty worthless. Professionally, you would be much better off with a BSN. What's your objection to finishing a BSN?

Interesting. That is great feedback- thanks. I am already in a management position and the healthcare administration curriculum would be beneficial for my current position and advancement in my company-specifically the curriculum in finance, human resources, and Leadership. I already have a strong nursing background and a great clinical experience. I did not feel that another Nursing degree would give me what I was looking for. Do you disagree?

Since you suggested WGU- talk to me about that. I don't know that I completely understand the Competency Based assessment. How do I go on to a master's degree program in the future without a GPA? I admit that I know little to nothing about the school. Is it reputable? Thank you so much!

WGU is great. It's low cost, non-profit and accredited. I did the rn to BSN in 1 term. You could then do the MBA Page Not Found | Western Governors University

I know no one who has done wgu's healthcare administration program, but worth a look.

edit: they also have a BS program. Online Bachelor of Science Business - Healthcare Management

I have encountered many nurses and other personnel who have completed various nursing, administrative, business or healthcare degrees through WGU, and just about all of them sing the praises of the institution. Especially if you are on the West Coast, WGU is well-known and well-respected in the hiring world. If WGU had been around when I did my MBA, I likely would have done it through them.
