Best Nursing Job for A New Nurse

Published

Hello,

I would just like to hear everyones opinions about the best types of nursing jobs for someone who is fresh our of nursing school? I had a placement in long-term care, and it was great, but I don't know if it would be the best area of specialty for me.

Thank you,

Amy

Change your user name to something anonymous. The best position? Sometimes, it's the one that hires you. If you have choices, I'd say the best is the one that most aligns with your interests, skills and goals.

Best is a bit subjective. What are your career goals? What are your interests so far? Have you had any clinical rotations that really stuck out for either as something you would want to do or would not want to do?

I started in med/surg and felt it was a great start. I got to sharpen many of my clinical skills and time management. I believe med/surg is a great place for new nurses to start.

Choose the one you enjoyed the most as a student. If it is a long-term care, go for it. Patients need passionate nurses, not exactly those who follow others advice but do not enjoy their workplace.
