Best NCLEX PN Review Book?

Hello Everyone!

I will be completing my LPN course in three weeks, and want to know which book is best to purchase for the review. Currently, I have Mosby's and Saunders, but from what I have been reading here, they do not seem to be choice books. I will have a review course a few weeks after our grades are placed in, (the grades are placed in March 1, 2006), and I plan to take the NCLEX by the middle of April. I want to have my plan of study in place before I get out of here.

Also, I really don't believe that I have a fair command of pharmacology. What did you all do to learn all of those drugs? I had a horrible pharmacology and nutrition instructor, and they really didn't place much emphasis on drugs and nutrition once we got out of the class. What the heck do you do?

I am about as nervous as the posts I have seen about the waiting for the results. I live in New York, and can get the results in 24 hours (if I want to pay that money), or 28 hours. I hate the fact that they really don't seem to gear the questions towards what you were actually taught. :chair: (I feel like hiding already!!)

Thanks!

I passed my NCLEX-PN on my first attempt with the help of the Saunders CD and the Kaplan NCLEX-PN Strategies book. Do 100 questions daily on the computer with the Saunders CD. Also, read the Kaplan book from front to back (it's not a long book, don't worry) for strategies on how to deal with priority questions. You'll probably see many priority-style questions on your NCLEX, so you will need to learn methods on how to answer them since all 4 answers will look correct. Good luck! ;)

Someone else told me about the Kaplan NCLEX book, so, I'll get it. Did you hear of Frye's 3000 Nursing Bullets? It's an RN one, but it was suggested by one of my clinical instructors. I'll order the Kaplan's right now, because the other person that told me praised it to the high heaven.

Thank you!

where in NY are you? O/U BOCES by any chance?

No, LaGuardia Community College. I'm in their first LPN program.

I have 2 copies of the Frye's 3000 Nursing Bullets (the PN and the RN). You can do without them.

I used Mosby for refreshing. If you have worked as a graduate PN, you know loads. Just refresh on what you feel weakest in. Having said that in six years, I've only ever met one person who failed the exam. My training college has a 99% pass rate.

Just be glad you don't write in Canada. It takes us weeks to get the results and the exam is scantron and pencil!

I tried to find an LPN one, but didn't. I was surprised that it was not located on Amazon.com.

Oh. I purchased my Frye's 3000 Nursing Bullets at a Borders Book Store.

Hi, I used every nclex book I could afford to buy. like NCLEX Incredibly Easy, mosby, sounders,RN nursing bullets, ect with a cup of  LOL. I studied from every one of those books. Pass the first time. I don't suggest anyone buying so many books like i did but take some time viewing books to make sure it's the one you need. and yes i spent a lot of money on this books. do i regret it NO not at all.:nurse:

i used kaplan, lipincott and saunders. among the 3, saunders was most helpful.

I just took my NCLEX-PN. I had so many books, Sauders, Mosby's, LPN review (pearls of wisdom), NCLEX-PN made incredibly easy.

I also bought NCLEX exam prep by Pearson Education.

I studied from all of them, especially the areas I felt weak in.

I used Saunder's the last week and pretty much went through the entire book.

One of my instructors from school said the secret was doing as many questions as you could, the more the better also read the rationale as to why the answer was right or wrong. I would come home after work and do 200-300 questions in the evenings.

Use the CD's for each book, just to get used to being in front of the computer for periods at a time.

Good Luck.........:lol2::monkeydance:
