Hi everyone. Just wondering what hospitals you all thought were the best to work at. I have two little ones 6 and 5 and just trying to get a feel. Living near Gurnee, but willing to drive for a good job!
Thanks,
Jolie, BSN

My first choice would be Rush. Given that you are way north, I would recommend Northwestern or Children's Memorial.
Good luck!

I'm curious to read other's input...I work at a hospital in Lake County...I'm pretty happy, but we are going through a lot of changes...

Centegra has a couple of hospitals in Woodstock and McHenry, I think about 45 minute drive.

Eww, Mercy is woodstock is reliable, but NIMC in McHenry has had a bad rep in the past. I know they are working hard to change that.
Good Shepard in Barrington is respected.

You could always drive down to Lutheran General, it's in Park Ridge, I believe. It's about 20 miles south of Gurnee, right off I-294.

Hi I'm a RN in Michigan, hoping to move to the Chicago area soon. I think I have narrowed my choice jobs down to UC, St Joseph's or one of the Advocate hospitals, hoepfully Christ Medical. Does anyone have any opinions on these places? Also, as a single mom, what area would be a safe and affordable place to live? Thank you so much!!!
U of C has had some labor issues of late. I would check them out thoroughly before accepting an offer.
Christ's Children's Hospital, Hope, has a good reputation. I don't know much about the quality of their adult health units. What clinical area interests you?
I am not familiar with St. Joseph's. Where is it located?
Once you decide where to work, then it would be easier to recommend housing. Oak Park is a nice near western suburb, and Oak Lawn is a nice area in the south.

Thanks Jolie, I appreciate that. UC is actually the first place that called me for an interview, I haven't actually applied anywhere else yet. All my experience is in telemetry/stepdown patients. I'm not a peds person at all. St Joseph is a part of the Ressurrection Health Care system. Its on Lake Shore Drive, similar in size to Illinois Masonic, from what I'm told. Thanks again for your reply.

I actually grew up in Oak Lawn (where Advocate Christ Hospital is located). They have a very good reputation and a skilled trauma center, should that be something you may switch to sometime. Oak Lawn and the surrounding suburbs are great areas to move to (Chicago Ridge, Evergreen Park, etc.) for a single mom. You also mentioned St. Joseph, but don't be confused by the one in Joliet, IL (45 minutes southwest of Oak Lawn), which has a rep I'm not particularly familiar with. Good luck with your move!
Thanks, I actually have an interview now on the 27th with Christ Hospital. St Joseph in Chicago is part of the Resurrection system, similar in size to Advocate, just a bit smaller, they also own St Francis in Evanston, another possibility. I looked up Oak Lawn on the net, seems like a nice place. I'm excited!!Thanks for your help.
Glad to hear that it's not St. Joe's in Joliet that you are considering. As you can see from my screen name, Joliet is my former home, and I consider Provena St. Joseph Medical Center worthy of avoiding at all costs!
Good luck on your move!
