Best fitness monitor

The New Year is upon us and as usual I am committing to being a fitter me. Got the gym membership and the bike tuned up. Wife bought a treadmill for herself and the dog (yes, she has trained the dog to walk on a treadmill) so have access to a treadmill at home.

Now, what fitness monitor do you use and how user friendly is it for routine fitness. I'm not training for a marathon or anything water related though I would consider some swimming or river walking, But I would like to motivate myself by keeping track of calories burned etc.

What else would be fun? I used to have one of those monitors that tracked calories but it required a monthly fee to connect to my computer and that got old so I don't want that again.

I have also used a hand held GPS to map my ride and that was fun.

So, whaddaya say nursing community?

I stand behind my apple watch though its not waterproof

Withings has a watch device that is waterproof and works very well.

I have a Fitbit Charge HR. I love it. Thinking about upgrading to the Surge.

I have both the vivofit2 by Garmin and the FitBit Charge HR.

I like that the vivofit2 is waterproof and doesn't need recharged for a year, but I don't like the software interface as well as the FitBit.

The fitBit has better software and interfaces with more programs/apps, but it does need recharged about every 3 days and is not waterproof.

I would say for your usage the FitBit Charge HR would work well.

I think the Apple Watch is fantastic for fitness tracking and motivating, HR tracking (I've compared it to a cardiac monitor and been impressed), and has been useful to be at work.

I really like the Fitbit software, and like the social aspect of competing for steps. However, I've had two Fitbits and they both broke in under a year.

I had a Fitbit Flex for a year and a half (my boyfriend now has it), and a Fitbit Charge HR, and both were really great. The Flex bands did wear down, but I wore them every day but the bands can be replaced. The Charge HR was really great - had for about a year. The auto sleep recording and HR adjustment was great. I did find the Flex under-estimated, and the Charge HR over-estimated my steps.
