What experience do you have with travel companies to Hawaii. I keep getting the run-around from my company and there is no waiting list, it's all first come, first serve. Has that been everyone's experience with Hawaii too? I've heard there are companies specifically for Hawaii, but a friend of mine got totally screwed by them. Any first hand experience would be appreciated!

Hi , I am a California RN, and just applied for a Hawaii Nursing License. I am looking for a good travel company, too, for a short term Hawaii assignment.

NurseFinders!
Specialized (agency only)
Island Nurses.
those are some other options... w/ aloha
Thanks! I applied with TNS & RN Network , but didn't get any leads. When I applied through American Mobile, I got a telephone interview.
Since I was in Waikiki on vacation last week, I met with the nurse manager. She said she has " hundreds" of applicatants seeking a travel assignment in Hawaii. AND, she only uses: American Mobile, CCTC, and Kohioa for 13 week assignments. ALTRES is a the local agency there that is great for registry ( $ 45.00 and hour).
Anyway, I got the contract for 17 weeks instead of 13. I start my new travel assignment and summer in Hawaii on May 22!!!!!
Aloha!

No.
The Queens salary scale is about standard for the hospitals here.

Note that you won't even be paid "job rate" until you have 24 months of experience (that experience can be gained elsewhere). And for the first three months of employment, no matter how much experience you have, you'll be paid about $4/hr less than job rate.
There is also another little thing that they fail to tell new hires---if the census is low, they are sent home without pay (you don't get to use PTO until you have been there a year). Staffing during low census periods goes according to seniority and the lowest on the seniority list are cut first. This doesn't go by rotation---if low census periods last for a while you may lost quite a bit of income.
This applies to travel nurses, too. According to union rules they are covered by the contract which specifies low census staffing rules. Since they are very often the ones with the least seniority on the units they are told to stay home when the census is low.
You can always do agency work to supplement, which many new hires and travel nurses do.
If you can tough it out you'll eventually get enough seniority so that you won't be cut as often.

This is my first time to hear about being sent home when the census is low.
Thank you for telling me this.
So...I guess I will have to bring some $$$$ with me when I come to Hawaii to work.
Thank you again.

That why when I was traveling my contracts had a pay guaranty. It basically stated unless I volunteered to go home, which I never did or called in sick I got paid for my 40 hrs a week.
