I am finishing a 13 week travel assignment with MLK in LA on Saturday4/7/07. This hospital is in a lot of trouble, and did not pass accredidation for the 2nd time in March. They are on a plan of correction and only operating at a 40 bed capacity. Most off the staff are travlers, and the doctors are all registry, too. No more residents, or trauma unit. Last week they ended several travel nurse contracts, as they cannot open more beds as anticipated ( canno pass accredidation). This hospital is VERY STRICT with policy and procedure. You will be under the microscope there. Don't worry about your license, though; the supervising staff are very supportive. Anyways, if you " mess up" (do not follow policy and procedure ) you have 3 chances, then they end your contract. Also, the paperwork is astronomical. Everything has to be written in 3 different places on the flow sheets ( ICU/CCU). Again, MLK is very strict with paperwork, and policy. They have to be, they only have one shot left in August to pass accreditation, or they will be closed down. Overall, it was a good experience! :)
