Best career advice

I guess no one received any "best" career advice.

My best advice was to remember to protect myself and take care of myself 1st. I think that advice has seen me through thirty years of bedside nursing without a bad back and without catching any patient bugs. I have a situation every day or two when those words will echo through the decades, and I stop, take a minute and do whatever is necessary to protect myself,whether it is gowning and masking or obtaining more assistance for lifting, I have waited for as many as 5 or 6 people to show up to lift,especially when the patient is 400 #'s and up. Even called in security to help lift. Main thing is I am still able to work and support myself and contribute to the family finances and help more patients.

I always tell people the same thing and wish someone would have put me onto theis when I started.

Apply for 2yr Nursing School in 10-11th grade.

Get job part time at local hospital that pays for your schooling

at age 20 after graduating from nursing school start on Coronary care unit/step down unit, move to ICU in one year at same time go back to school to obtain BSN.

At age 22 when finished with BSN apply for CRNA school

Should be making $100,000+ per year once graduating in 24 to 26 month after starting depending on the wait to get in.

even if you do not do CRNA school your optionsare unlimited, MSN, PA, MD's Office, Clinic, ER, ICU, travel whatever you want.

You can go anywhere with enough ICU/critical care experience and get paid pretty well too.

How about no matter what career you choose, be sure you want it to be part of your life. It is what you'll become.
