I review school absences because the county asks me to compile an influenza report, which includes this data. Sometimes the attendance clerks code the absence with a comment.
A student was absent first period...."Snake in the home."
We can't make this up.

Totally understandable. Although I'm more likely to be leaving my house with a snake in it, rather than staying home!

I'd be running too! I saw some good ones last year, but we haven't had any funny ones yet this year. Bummer.

Those get filtered out before it gets to me, but I do see a few "medical" related excuses for being late to school. I remember one about issues with contact lens getting lost in the eye. I'm not sure what the AP wanted me to do with it. I guess give him a read on whether I thought it was legitimate, but if a parent wanted to claim that was a medical issue, I'm not one to overrule.

I had one
"student will be absent 2 days because they will they will be on the Baton Death March"
Nothing else. Just that. Of course we googled it and there is an annual reenactment in New Mexico I think. But we are outside DC so we were like....WHAT

We had a kid miss all of last week due to "being on honeymoon". Last I checked, 6 year-olds were too young to get married in MA Turns out her mom was remarrying and she was going with them on their week-long honeymoon. Not MY idea of a fun honeymoon...

You must be young. I have worked 30 years with women and 1 thing I've learned, most women have that low on their priority list. That's why I married my wife, hours of sitting at the station talking.
Ha, nope, not young. But I def think if I were remarrying and we both had kids in the picture, I would most likely prefer some alone adult time for my honeymoon, rather than bring all the kids. I never understood why those Bradys didn't get annoyed with Alice when she showed up with them all, and Tiger too!

I had a good one for my kids once - they missed school and I missed work because my car was stuck in the garage. We were in the process of having our home built so we lived about 30 minutes away from the school the kids attended. My car was parked in the garage - the garage door opener stopped working and I couldn't get the emergency release to work to open it manually - so we were stuck - no way for me to get my kids to school that day or myself to work. My kids thought it was great :)
