There is no such department in a hospital or acute care setting that will not overwhelm you as a new nurse. However, you will learn a lot from any department you choose. Good luck.

I disagree. All areas of nursing can be overwhelming if you aren't prepared... but some may be less so than others. Don't try to start right out in a critical care area like ICU, CCU. Med-surg is probably best for building your skills, because you'll see a little bit of everything. But wherever you go, try to get the hiring manager's word that you won't be taken off of orientation until you feel ready, and try to shadow on the floor before accepting the job in order to get a feel for the place, and how you will fit in.
Good luck.

the "best" area is dependent on you....your likes, strengths, goals, attitude, etc. Consider which area you enjoyed the most in school and try starting there. Best of luck.
Thank you guys,
This is very helpful now I just need to find a job you don't know how hard it's now a days to get a job.

It is not the route for everyone, but I went into community health and I have had no trouble learning the ropes. I'm not perfect, but its not life or death, more of a preventative care/education situation, and I sleep so well at night. I feel truly blessed to have the job I have and help the people that I help (I work with homeless and underinsured / uninsured mostly). Think of what will make you happy in the end, and aim for that. IMO that gives you the motivation to learn all you need to know, way more than any particular area might. Passion is a great motivator.

A lot of people say med/surg is the best for a new grad to start in but I disagree. If you like a specialty and know it, go for it!
