Best area/ hospital to work in Florida

Published

I am starting to look for a new job somewhere in Florida. Currently I work as a MedSurg/telly nurse in North Central Florida and in June I will have been there a year. My husband and I have been wanting to move out of this area, we are just waiting for me to get a year of experience so I can find a decent job someplace else.

My daughter is seven years old. And my husband works from home. We do have some family in Orlando but we don't really want to live in Orlando. Nearby would be fine but don't want that large of a city. We also have some family in the Brooksville area too so maybe somewhere in between lol. St. Augustine would be nice too.

I guess I just want some feedback on what is out there- are there any hospitals that offer things like after school care for school aged kids, or gyms, things like that? I am a little nervous about this as we will be working mostly blind, will need to find a place to rent, a school and a job -everything with only a short visit or two and I don't want to find a place to rent without having a job but then I don't want to find a job and they're not be any places to rent nearby! Any suggestions are hot tips? Thanks in advance!

Hi qrkid! Where do you live now? There are lots of gangs in TNC now and many scary areas but I would much rather live in Westchase or even Carrollwood areas myself. I can try and PM you. Will you be a 2 or 4 yr. RN?

I am in Wilmington, NC. Will graduate with a 2 year ADN, although I do have a bachelors in management. Thanks for any and all insight.

In between Brooksville and Orlando you've got Sumter and Lake County. Lake is a bit more suburban- Sumter is rural. I'd say look in Clermont. South Lake Hospital is nice.

Maybe I'll move too lol

I live in Clearwater area and work in Tampa. Moffitt cancer center is a wonderful place to work. I have nothing but good things to say about it!

I would love to work at Moffit but I only have an ADN with a BA in psych. Their GN program says you must have a BSN unless you already work there:( I currently work as a pct in a Cancer institute connected to a hospital. I've worked there for more than 1 1/2 yrs, but they don't hire new grads. They require 1 yr experience on an inpatient unit. Do you know if they ever make any exceptions if you agree to get the BSN?

Almost got hired in triage there once but someone else beat me :-( Might reapply.

Wait, what exactly is an ADN? Is that a two year RN? What does it mean anyway?

Sorry! An Associate Degree in Nursing
