Bergen Community College's Entrance Exam

Just heard from a lady friend. She received all A's on her pre-req science courses. Good overall GPA....but was not able to be considered for admissions because she received an 80% on the test and she was told the cut-off was 94.95%

Can anyone confirm this cut-off percentage ?

I am already in the program, but a friend of mine who just applied did not get in - she scored an 86 on the test. She told me the cut off was a 95%. It's a very competitive program. I am surprised they are dropping the GPA requirement, as it is they have way more applicants than seats.

I reviewed algebra (from the algebra class I took at Bergen). I also reviewed some writing skills, basically how to write an essay, the opening statement, the summary, how to make it flow. I did not use any accuplacer prep books. Try not get too worked up over it. Prepare yes, but try not to stress. The test is untimed except for the essay portion, and that timer does not begin until you click the box, so collect your thoughts, and have a basic outline of what you will write before you click the box.

Thanks ! and yes, I am applying for the night program. I heard that the Math portion is not that long……..maybe 20 questions…..was this the case with you ? I was initially under the impression that the exam would be 2-3hrs total.

The test prep book is $40....but i can't find any reviews on it at only which confuses me.

Like i mentioned in another post....I graduated from Temple Univ, where I took Cal I and II, Stat...but it has been years 15yrs+ since i have sat in a math class. so I may be rusty. hehehe

That sample test is pretty much as I remember the test being. As for number of questions, I really don't remember - I took the test in the Spring of 07, for Fall 07 start date.

If it has been that long since you have taken a math class, and you have not used it all that while, maybe the book would be helpful. Or possibly, go to a library and borrow a book on math, or try to borrow the colleges basic algebra book. They should have a copy for you to use in the Bergen library - but if they only have the reserve copy - you can only look at it there, and cannot take it home.

I finished the exam in about 45 minutes, but I always take tests quickly. Also, since the test is computerized, you can't really go back and review your answer, so that makes the time go faster also.

A friend of mine took a little over 2 hours to do the test, so I guess it depends on what type of test taker you are. Most people do not take over 3 hours.

And as I've said, it is an important test - because it basically decides if you get into the program. However - don't stress too much, try to relax. Read the questions carefully. Breathe, and make sure your answer makes sense before clicking the submit (or whatever it says) icon.

I'll be starting some of my science pre-req's this spring at BCC - I have done all the college required pre-req's so I only need to do another math class and I'll be done, except for a few sciences. But I want to get them out of the way and also to boost my GPA which is hairline below a 3.0. I have also been out of school for 5 years that is why I have to take my science classes over, I keep asking my husband for moral support as I venture off into school and hopefully a career as a Nurse. But I am so worried as I hear so often how hard it is to pass the Entrance Exam to get into the program - I had bought some pre-entrance Exam books to study off of as an aid even before I start my regular classes at Bergen. I too want to apply for the Nursing Evening Program, although I am not sure exactly how that works as far as class scheduling - I also work full time and cannot afford to work pt. or not at all, so I have to be very careful with time management. I am wondering ( BCC used to require that you take a Speech Communications Class in order to graduate, is this still a requirement?) I definitely have to make a trip back to my counselor as I continue my education just so I stay on track and don't veer off path. But it's good to know someone who is where I want to be at hopefully! So please keep posting up your progress it is a motivational tool and almost like a "things to do" guideline

ALSO sorry for the loooong post - but I heard once you have passed the entrance exam you are required to hold health insurance and be certified in CPR (i think - i'll have to re-read my course study) let me know of any other tid-bits as you move along in your journey... AND BEST OF LUCK!!

make sure you check that Ratemy professor.com website before choosing your classes. I took and suggest the following profs:

A&P I: Prof Benedict = A (saturdays)

A&P II: Prof Saleh = B+ (saturdays)

Sociology: Prof Behn = B+ (online)

General and Developmental Pyschology: Prof Wiater = A in both classes (online)

Chemistry: Prof Ramaydal = currenlty taking his (Hybrid class, half online, we go in for th labs)

All are decent Profs.

Also, the President of the school just dropped the required min GPA to a 2.5...which will mean more competition to get in.
