Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!
Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.
Thanks!
Hi guys,
I am new to this thread but also attend BCC and preying actually desperate at this point to get into their nursing program!! Does anyone know how many students are accepted into the day or evening programs? I didn't get in the Spring 2011 admission because my WEX isn't done. So my next question is...is WEX a pre-req for the day program? Any information would be very appreciated. I feel like I am wasting away because all I ever wanted is so close but yet so far.

Hey Nancy! I transferred to Bergen 2 semesters ago. When I went to academic advising they informed that they know students who get into the program without the WEX done. Are you in WEX 101 now or are pre-registered for it?? I'm in WEX 101 this semester and my advisor said I can still be accepted because I'm enrolled in the class. However, in both the day and evening curriculum it states WEX 101 must completed prior to admission.
I hear the availability for the day program is 90 but only 80 for the evening.
Good Luck to you and I hope you get in soon :)
Thanks Gabby820! I cannot find where it says WEX is a pre-req for day??? I am not taking classes this semester because I figured instead of waiting to get into a RN program I decided to go to LPN school. Well to make it short, What A Joke!! Literally..... the worst school ever and will not recommend it to anyone even if it's the last school on earth!! So now I am back at bergen and registered for classes for spring. Are you going to apply for the day program? I see the deadline is March and I too spoke to a counselor, 2 actually and they told me there is no waiting list nor is their a "number" that you need to score on the HESI to get into their program. I even contacted the nursing department. I don't understand why people are saying there's a score to beat like 97 or 98, its selected by highest to lowest rank. Say if one scored 80% their chances of getting are not passed just might take a little longer. My brain is fried from hearing all different things.
I actually applied to the Spring 2011 evening program. Still waiting for my admission status.
I've also heard students are picked from high to low scores on the HESI. I guess maybe people were saying to score in the 90's because that would 'secure' a seat. In fact, it doesn't really secure a seat but you're chances of getting in the program are high if you score in the 90 percentile. It is a competative program.
Which semster do you plan to apply to? Have you completed most of your pre-reqs?
Hey Nancy,
From my understanding, for the day program they accept 90 student...top 90 HESI scores. The majority of us that were commenting on this thread back in the spring scored in the low 90's and we got in. That said, a guy that I was in Chemistry with last fall who applied for the spring 2010 evening program scored an 80 on the HESI and he was accepted.
The total class average for the HESI (for those of us who took it in the spring for Fall 2010 Day) ended up being around 64 I believe....so there had to be some pretty low scores.
Sounds like this is more of the same stuff yall have already heard but I figured I would share my experience anyway!!
Hey Nancy,
From my experience speaking with an advisor, I don't need to complete WEX-101 prior to getting into the program (evening, that is). She did mention that the department is contemplating its removal as a pre-requisite; Not sure about the day program. I would say make sure you maintain a high GPA as that may allow you to apply even if you haven't completed all your pre-req's. For instance I'm taking chemistry this semester and I was allowed to apply to the even program for the spring.. and again I wasn't required to complete wex-101. I've maintained a 4.0 GPA.
Hey guys, I'm in my first semester of the day program and I haven't taken nor am I even registered for the WEX class yet...just FYI ;-)
Hi ukgirl!,
Have read most of your posts in this thread. How's the semester going so far? Good luck with getting to the next level, as I've heard it gets seriously intense.
hey ukgirl7655, thanks for letting us know the HESI average from last semester. I was actually wondering what it was. This semester the average is 77%. I know you are VERY busy but can you give us an insight of what to expect if we get in? I understand if you are too busy, it's a very intense program :)
Missmoone---i'm hoping to have the admission status before Thanksgiving. I was looking at the previous post from the spring and looking at the date of when the exam ended to the dates of people posting their acceptance, it was approx 6 days after the deadline to take the HESI. (I'm so anxious..as a result, I sat and analyzed the posts! lol ) Anyway, I hope it's not after Thanksgiving I will go crazy!

I swear the last time I've been this nervous was waiting for a decision on which high school I was to be accepted into. My primary and secondary education was completed in the Caribbean, and you got to choose three of the top schools you'd like to be accepted, if your grades were impressive. Interestingly my track & field coach at the time broke the news to me long before the results became public knowledge. Isn't it presumptous of me to start looking at what's required for the upcoming semester before the results are even out, I'm looking at what books are currently being used .. checking the professor ratings site for nursing teachers at the school
.. It's hard to listen to people when they tell you to relax, because they're either already in the program, or they have no clue what's at stake.. btw just a tid -bit .. the class average went up a point .. it's now 77%..
oi!
