Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!
Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.
Thanks!
Hey Newstart85 :)
I'm nervous too! I actually do work in the health care field now as a medical assistant. I work in podiatry in mid-town Manhattan. I have experience with vital signs, blood pressure, venipunture etc... I'm also a Certified Podiatric Radiographer. Working in the medical field will help you after graduation. I hear the nursing program is tough so hopefully you will have the time and energy to complete the CNS courses. I wish you lots of luck and hopefully we both get in for the spring!!!!!! :)
Hi all,
My very first post. I have been reading most of what has been posted in this thread; Some of it scary and some entertaining. I am hoping to get into the Spring evening program. I sat the exam yesterday. I was 90 % confident going in, and I was o.k for the most part considering that I prepped for everything. Had I known that the vocab section was going to be 95% medical terminology I would most certainly have studied that more as that affected my overall average.. So far the average of all test takers have been 76% and I scored well above that, but one never knows. I'm hoping they can put us out of our misery sooner rather than later .. Good luck to everyone who has taken the exam!!
How did everybody feel about the biology section because I was totally thrown off...very random questions. Only got a 80 overall..GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!! :) Did anybody see the average for class because I did not see it.
Well I felt it wasn't too bad considering that Microbiology questions were included (they don't tell you that before hand). I made sure to refresh my memory on all things Biology, even the cell division (which was non existent in the questions). I mean from 30 questions it was anyone's guess what would be asked.

I was almost certain we all took the same test but I think some of our tests were different. I had 55 Biology questions. I really focused on Biology so I did very well. Although, I wish I did have 30 questions.
As far as vocabulary was concerned, I was surprised at how much anatomy/medical terms were on in. I remember taking the practice tests and omitting those questions thinking "these are medical terms, they can not be on the test" I was wrong. I am familiar with medical terminology so it wasn't too bad but I did find it unfair to those who aren't familiar with it. I really hope everyone makes it in. We are all obviously passionate about this-if not we wouldn't be on here asking questions about the exam and we all studied our butts off for this. Good Luck to everyone!! After today, I think I will be checking my admission status twice a day everyday! :)
I did find them strange. I don't know if you noticed but they asked some of the questions twice; they just worded it different. My cousin is taking an exam for the police academy and she also has to take a personality test. She says that they rephrase the questions towards the end of the test to determine if your answers are consistent. I don't know if that's just her test. I'm going crazy waiting for a decision :sstrs:

Hi Gabby820,
Thanks for info. Mine says ready to test as well. I'm so nervous!
Are you working right now in field related to nursing? I wanted to build my resume so that when I graduate I can have some experience. I heard being a CNA helps, but we have to take separate courses for that. I heard BCC lets us become certified after a semester or two. Are you working anywhere?
Does anyone know how much the starting salary is for newly graduated RNs with no experience in NJ/ny area?
