Bergen Community College Nursing Program Question

Published

Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!

Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.

Thanks!

hey wannabeanurse

i think, and i've heard, that when people decline positions for acceptance, that opens up the doors for others who were VERY close to making it in. one of the things it tells us on our acceptance letters is to please be prompt in returning our decision, so i'm sure that may be one of the reasons for it.

you should call up the nursing department and see what they have to say about your question as well, good luck to you and your friend, who knows there may still be a chance.... i think somebody else on this thread, was it daddyo? they said to not give up hope just yet if you didn't get in.. let me go check

wannabanurse,

see--

Even if one does not make the initial cut...there is still hope. I had 4 people that i know that had to postpone their first semester. I also heard of one that had some challenges with their background check and was not able to attend.

If your name is not in the initial cut....i would call the Nursing Dept and ask about a waiting list.

Thank you sweetie!! I did see that statement by Daddy-O. Does anyone know any other individuals who got in with my score (80) or my friends score (78) or around there??? so I can get a good grasp on whether or not I would have any chances of getting in if so let me know.

Hey Wannabeanurse =)

I had a guy in my chem class last fall who got into the evening program with an 80, I know there probably aren't as many applicants for the evening on BUT they also accept fewer students...so it would interesting to see what the ratio is between the 2 programs and the number of applicants to the number accepted - it might be relatively close to the same chances either way. The evening program is def a more desirable option for ppl who need to work full time and still go to classes, I was originally aiming for that but didn't get all my pre-req's (the additional one required for the evening on) completed in time.

Forgive me if you already said so, but have you just not been accepted yet? Or were you told that you were placed on the waiting list?

I got in with an 84.5. I know two students who were admitted last year towards the end of the summer after other people declined acceptance. One had a score of 79 and another was in the mid-70's! That second one didn't recieve notice until very late in the summer. I would not lose hope with a score of an 80! I know people who were applynig to Bergen as a backup in case they didn't get into the Accelerated BSN programs they were applying to. Stay positive and good luck! :)

I was flat out DENIED which I found strange because I thought I would atleast get a letter stating if a spot opens up I will be put on a waitlist. NOTHING whatsoever in my letter said I have a chance. Everything happens for a reason...I just know I would enjoy this group of students going in based on the responses and the positivity so hopefully there is still a chance!! :)

I wish I had more insight, but I never asked anyone what their initial letter said. I would definitely place a call to the department to see if they can shed some light on what possibilities you may or may not have. Just for peace of mind, so you don't spend the next 2 months making yourself crazy! I know I would be!! I'm hoping their is still a chance for you as well!!

this is def. a great group of supporting, caring individuals. i will keep my fingers crossed for you and i really hope you get waitlisted- def. call and see what they say. let me know!

Hang in there! Let us know how it goes with admissions - I find I have the best luck going in to talk to someone personally - hard to get a live person on the phone, especially during break. I know Elsa is on vacation until next week. People drop out at the last minute as well - just see what the cut-off was and where you stand, and then you can go from there! Will be thinking of you!

Ladies you all are so sweet..THANK YOU SO MUCH for all the support and suggestions. I am definately going up there to speak to somebody who can help me!!!

my situation was a little different, but I too received a letter declining acceptance at one point. fortunately for me it worked out. i can't stress this enough to not give up. if i accepted that letter as a final decision, i would not be one semester shy of completion.....nor would i be starting my Externship next week. make your presence felt and find out what happened or is going on.

Thanks Daddy-O..I visited the school today and a lady said if someone does decline that there would be a chance of getting in...I still dont know my ranking...when it comes to this topic they are very HUSH HUSH...so I guess i will wait it out.
