Bentaub Hospital?

Published

Hey!

I have been offered a cardiology job at Bentaub Hospital located in the Houston Medical Center. I just wanted some advice on how the hospital is and if anyone knows if it is a good place to work at? I am new to Houston and any advice will be appreciated. Thank you.

For one thing, it is "Ben Taub" - named for a very prominent benefactor. Probably a good idea to get this right so you don't tick off anyone. We're serious about the history & legacy of prominent Texans.

Ben Taub (speaking about the hospital now) is a legendary pioneer in trauma care. Astounding as it may seem - Houston only has 2 Leve I Trauma facillities; Memorial-Hermann & Ben Taub... right next door to one another in the Texas Medical Center (TMC). BT is a training facility for trauma care. It is also the tertiary facility for the Harris County Hospital District, which means it is the primary "charity care" facility. This obviously influences their patient mix.

TMC hospitals compete with one another for staff - so benefits & salaries are pretty similar. However, the biggest influence on the day-to-day working environment is the manager of that department so you may want to investigate unit-specific data such as turnover which will give you a better sense of what the job will be like.
