Hey everyone, I didn't see a thread for this yet so I thought I would start one.
Is anyone else applying to BC for Fall 2014/Winter 2015 cohorts? I'm getting nervous with the deadline less than two months away. I did all my pre reqs there and it's my first choice school which probably adds to the nerves a bit. Are any of you finished with the application process yet? I think it's nice that this year, the background check is after the initial application just for the sake of saving money if I didn't score high enough on my TEAS to get in.
Haha true. Let me know how the flu shot goes. I've never had one in fear from hearing all the stories of people getting really sick after the shot. I've always turned them down. For my current job I needed to fill out a waiver form, which I may need to do for nursing school if I decide not to get the flu shot again. Is it actually effective?
Get the shot. Get the shot. Get the shot!
If you care about your patients, get the shot.
If you want to give yourself the best shot (pun intended?) at success, get the shot.
I've been taking them for years with not even a sore arm. Read the stats and you'll decide the benefits far outweigh the miniscule risks.
Go for it!

It isn't the school you need to worry about, it is the clinical sites. Some of the will accept a waiver and some will also require you to wear a mask the entire time you are there if you do not get it, and a couple will not allow you there even with a waiver. Some of them require that any waiver form be signed by your physician. Chie sent us a list of clinical sites and their requirements last fall, and I am sure she would send it to you if you asked her.
If you have already taken Micro, you should understand that the vaccine is very effective, and why it is very important for healthcare workers (everyone, really) to get it.
Hey guys, I don't know if this is a dumb question... but are the textbooks we're buying for fall going to be most of the textbooks we're going to need for all 6 quarters of the nursing program, or are we going to have to buy like 9 books every quarter? The Elsevier package that we got info about at orientation includes a book from a later quarter of the program, so it just made me wonder if we are buying all the books we need at the start.
Thank you! :)

Those are almost all of the books you will need for the program. Each quarter you will need to get one or two more, but you won't have to buy nine of them at once again :) You will end up with a very impressive tower of books by the time you are done.
Black or white shoes. Most people either wear Dansko type shoes or leather tennis shoes. The shoes can have some color, like stripes or something, but the main colors have to be black or white. The instructors are really not too nit picky about it, as long the shoes are safe and you look neat and professional.
If you go back a few pages, someone posted the book list and uniform requirements for clinical. You can check them out, if you would like to get a head start. I would also recommend Winter Quarter start a facebook page. It's been a great way to connect so far within the fall cohort, and get a feel for carpooling, etc. :)

I rarely get sick. If you get sick right after, you're either having a reaction or already had it.
