Thought I would put this thread up for those of us who have applied to BC RN program.
I know we won't find out until mid-April if we made it or not, but how did everyone do on the TEAS test???? I have heard alot of horror stories about test scores.
If I recall correctly, the student's marriage had just ended, and she did intend to work as a CNA (and later go to nursing school) so she may have gotten the funding because of her recently becoming a 'head of household' without much notice. This was about 3 years ago, so if this was some state program it may not exist anymore given budget cuts. I really didn't feel that I could ask her questions about it, we (some of the students) were more interested supporting and encouraging her. I later ran into her when she was working in a Seattle hospital and taking prereqs.
sltenbroek, I think those who had worked as CNAs were way ahead of people who had taken the class at any location. You will probably be just fine - maybe review calculating I&Os.
Thank you for the information, for those of you who are in similar situations as the woman mentioned, (recently put back into the workforce without career training that will generate income), I think the state does still have that program to help with funding for things like CNA and some others. If I don't get into the nursing program I may look into it again as in that case becoming a CNA would no longer be a step for nursing, but a temporary career while I wait to apply again next year. Speaking of getting in, I was told today that applicants would definitely hear something by the end of the month.
sorry guys, I live in Bothell. ? Don't know how they are shipping out letters, alphabetical perhaps? My last name starts with H. I got in (yay!!) but for spring. So having taken bandaides words into consideration I am going to do CNA in the summer as planned and try to find employment, or if nothing works out via that avenue then volunteer, between finishing CNA training and starting in the spring.

Bandaide I apologize. I think I am oversensitive to some of the struggles I have encountered the last couple of years attending school. I am grateful for the heads up about needing education not all CNA schools may offer. It just rubbed me the wrong way for some reason. I never said anyone was snobby was having access to all options, I said it was snobby to think we would choose what you indicated would be a lesser education simply for convenience or because it was cheap. As for financial aid, unless something changed, CNA training at BC is categorized as continuing education, not a pre req, and as such is not covered by financial aid. There are some governement worker retraining programs for low income applicants who apply and are eligible, but this is very different than financial aid like pell grants etc. the qualifications are very specific and to be honest I did not know those programs would pay for CNA training if the intention is to go into nursing and not go get a job as CNA. My information on it was that it was to quickly enable a person to go get employed, not as a step on the education path into a 2+ year nursing program. ?? If your classmates would be willing to share what avenue they took to get CNA training at BC that they did not pay for out of pocket I would be very grateful for the information.
