Bellarmine ABSN May 2019 Start

U.S.A. Kentucky

Hello! I have been accepted to Bellarmine ABSN 12 month Program and I am wondering what people's thoughts are. I'm a little nervous attending bc I've read a fair amount of bad reviews. Hoping to get a clear grasp on the school/program before attending.

Also, if there is a fb group for the 2019 cohort, a link would be appreciated!

Thank you!

Hi @EBP_RN,

I was reading your post in regards mentioning several classes at Bellarmine that can be taken elsewhere/before starting the program: pathophysiology, research and theology/religion. Would you happen to have any insight as to where these classes can be taken to transfer in? I applied and am hoping to get in for the 2 year program, but if able to take any of these over the Summer either locally or online, I would absolutely want to try and do that.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you for your time ?

@Jenrod91

Hi! I’m not sure where these classes can be taken. Bellarmine is very specific on what classes meet the requirement. I Think you could take classes online through Bellarmine and those should meet the requirement since they are classes from Bellarmine. I would reach out to the Student Success Coordinator for the accelerated nursing program at Bellarmine. She’s very nice and should be able to help you.
Best of luck!

Thank you for the advice ? Do you happen to know anyone in the 2 year program or have any insight into that? All I keep finding is info about the 1 year ABSN, which is not what I'm shooting for. I would be relocating and taking out loans, so wanting to make sure I am finding a program where I can be successful.

Hi Jen- Portage Learning is what I'm using for pathophysiology... if you still have while before you start, you have plenty of time to take the classes online. They're mostly self-paced. I think there are 3 options for schools/programs...but yes reach out to Bellarmine.. I'm not sure if the online classes are an option for the two year program. I start the Accel program next month....

best of luck to you!

April

Hi April,

Thank you for the information! I will check that out. CONGRATS on your admittance and best wishes starting the program! ??

Hi all! I'm about to graduate and came to add some insight and feedback about the program since I hadn't found much recent stuff when I started last year, but I saw someone already did that! I definitely echo a lot of what the other person said - not a bad program, but poor communication makes it more challenging than it needs to be. Just wanted to include myself in the thread in case anyone has any other questions. Good luck! I'm excited for you guys.

Hey @newgradrn1991  congrats on your degree. Now that you are done with the program. Could you give some pros and cons? I decided to apply last minute and just wanted get more insight. Did you feel prepared as new grad? Did you stay in KY after graduation? How was accelerated program overall for you?

Yes, I stayed in KY after graduation because I was offered a day shift ICU position right before the pandemic hit! Definitely didn’t feel prepared after graduation, but that was the case with every new grad in the ICU during a pandemic. I definitely had a good foundation going in though, so I think the program gave me what I needed. Another user listed a long list of pros and cons earlier in this thread, but the cons are mostly cost, some program disorganization, and the fact that you need to put everything else on hold for a year. Pros are that you’re done in a year, professors were mostly really good/fair, and you’re around classmates who are also really motivated. I honestly had a great experience and would recommend it to people who can learn lots of information quickly and test well.

@EBP_RN Thank you so much for taking the time to give your honest feedback on the program. I've been accepted for Jan 2022 and needed to get some more info from a student perspective, so I really appreciate you taking the time to do this. The tuition is expensive, for me $56,000 for 12 months. I'd be moving from southern CA which will be expensive in and of itself. A cohort starting with 140 students seems high to me, am I wrong? I'm not sure what is considered a "normal" cohort size. The program seems like it would work for a student who is highly motivated and independent, little things like schedule mix ups don't matter, but the idea of having to stay and do paperwork while other students get to leave early and study for an exam is painful! Any additional insight you can share would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
