It's okay, if they're fortunate enough be the select few individuals who even get into med school they'll find out during their brutal residency just how wrong they were about nurses I doubt most of them really understand what we do.
What's the link to this forum? I want to lurk too haha.
Back a hundred years ago, when I was in college, those of us who were actual nursing students used to sit in the dorm dining room with the oh-so-important pre meds and tell the most graphic stories about code Browns and Decubs you could fit your fist into that we could think of.
Remember the scene in "Young Frankenstein" when the students were watching the autopsy and hit the floor one by one?
It was kind of like that.
Juvenile? You betcha. But it was so satisfying...
You won't find nurses sticking up for themselves on a doctor forum and they shouldn't really. How many doctors are here on AN?
I was on SDN when I was pre-med. A lot of them can be arrogant. If you want to see them at their "best", look up CRNA posts. It always irked me because I still loved the nursing profession and have nurses in my family. My biggest fear about becoming a doctor was behaving like them, not the loans. I think their robotic nature and lack of compassion, aka lack of nursing qualities, is what made them add the behavioral science component to the MCAT. So there.

Nothing upsets me more when a pre-meds bashes the nursing profession. After hovering over the SDN site (student doctor network) I find that a lot of pre-meds thinks that nurses are below them when they are not even in med school yet! I just don't understand their mentality of why they can sit on their high horses all day and talk about nurses because they're "aspiring doctors". And it is not even the SDN site, it is also the pre-meds at my university that made me want to check out the site anyway.
They tried to talk me out of being a nurse because some thing called the nursing module is stupid and take a thousand year for a nursing to do any obvious diagnosing and it should be only up to the doctors to that. So nothing gets my blood boiling when people think they are better than you then actually worrying about being a considerate, capable doctor w/o bashing the nurses!
Rant over. I was going to rant on the SDN forum but I'm not a pre-med and I don't think they care much.
