Hello world! I recently graduated from nursing school and I cannot really find a straight answer on how the Ohio board reacts to nurses obtaining a medical marijuana card. I have PTSD and another health condition that qualifies me to obtain my medical card, but I'm still confused on if the board is okay with it and if they could revoke or deny my license once I pass my NCLEX. I know it depends on circumstances aswell, but I don't want to jeopardize my license by asking them. Any life experiences or information or links would be sososo helpful.
What is needed is a more accurate test for THC. It's ridiculous to limit the off duty, legal use by nurses. After all, if you were taking a pain pill that was legitimately prescribed, they wouldn't get their panties in a bunch.
When I was the site occupational nurse at the data center build, I found out a lot of the workers there used magic mushrooms. That way they could party off the job and we weren't testing for magic mushrooms.
This is going to be a huge issue if they legalize marijuana, to me it's already a gray area. If people are allowed medical marijuana, how is that going to affect work? Alcohol can be measured to see if someone is impaired. People take pain medications and work while legally taking prescription medications as long as they are not impaired.
It will be interesting to see how it unfolds.

They can't prove that you are under the influence but if they are suspicious they can drug test you and it will come up positive since weed takes long time to get out of your system. I would just say if you are smoking due to your PTSD don't get tested. Quit your job before you have to get tested (if it ever comes down to that). Don't drink n drive or do a major traffic violation. A cop that thinks you are under the influence can take you for a drug screen, and again, even if you aren't high behind the wheel, the test will be positive.
Also don't switch jobs often, since most jobs require a drug screen before employment.
The last thing you want is to be put on one of those probation programs by the BON, they are brutal!
Best wishes to you ❤️
