I've been working agencies for 13 years and never been called "lazy". But, like any other job/career, you have those who go "along for the ride". I've seen some pretty hard workers, and some workers who only work on payday...that is working hard to get to the bank. As long as you yourself work your assignment as a professional, you won't have to be concerned. In fact, you might get called again to go back. More money in your pocket, less in theirs.

As an agency nurse, I can tell ya my experience is that if there are 5 pts in the ER I will have all of them and the reg. staff will be reading magazines, crossword puzzles, etc. I have came to expect this after 5 years. But recently I was treated worse than I have ever been. I was at Holy Tony's ER. ( Those of you from St. Louis will know) and actually had a charge nurse tell me that I was expected to take 3-4 pts to the staffs 1pt. No matter what I did it was not fast enough. I never got a break, even to pee. One night after working 12 hours off 4 hours and then comming back for 10 hours(b/c they were very short on staff that night) at the end I had to BEG the charge nurse for a pee break 8 hours into my second shift. They still treated me like I was lazy, and told me that if I did not pick up the pace that they were going to talk to my agency about it. The bit-- even had the guts to say" I am sure your skills are okay.... but you have to learn to work faster this is a fast moving ER" :angryfireThis after I have worked almost every ER in the St. Louis City, County, St. Charles County, St. Peters city, and Lake of St. Louis without ever having a complaint. In fact they call back and ask for me by name!! I could literally nurse circles arround her. As far as I am concerned they can bite my butt!! So yes I can say that I have been treated that way, when in all honesty I did not deserve it.

i have worked for 2 major hospitals in the st. louis area and have been disgusted with the "attitude" of the nurse's aides.
management is so afraid to stand up to this lazy bunch of "mouthers" that's the name i give to those who never shut up...they mouth about this and mouth about that ...nursing is in a sad state of affairs...i say we go back to primary care nursing...and forgetaboutit...give the extra money to the rns...they do all the work anyway...
i just spent the last 10 weeks at an ssm hospital and met 1-2 nurse's aides who know their job...and actually do it...you ask them to do something and they either stare at you, as if they didn't hear you...or they have some smart answer and management does nothing...oh sorry again...can't do anything...

All too true- I love the freedom that registry brings but I do know the negatives- one of my least favorite places but the one I go to more frequently is the one I call 'the place of the disappearing CNAs" - then they complain if the other registry nurse has not done the weeklys. I stay till I'm done but they don't like it when I charge for the overtime! I don't care - my days of working for free are behind me- I have no solutions only sympathy for other registry nurses
