Beginning of my journey

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

I finally decided to take the plunge the last week of August to pursue my nursing degree. Having been to multiple colleges in the past few years it took a while for Excelsior to receive all my transcripts. The wait seemed like forever but I always tell myself anything worth having is worth waiting for.

Three and a half weeks later i am notified of the classes i need to complete the program. All the nurses exams (to be expected) along with Information literacy, Lifespan psy, A&P 1 + 2 and Microbiology.

My original plan was to spend a month on the AP 1+2 exam then take the INL and Lifespan Psy as courses and beginning my nursing theory by the end of the year. This changed after finding out I didn't need lifespan psy to start nursing exams. Figure I'll do it as a wait for a CPNE date.

The practice exams are and were an amazing investment, instead of wasting the entire month studying for the AP exam i was able to gauge how prepared I was and took the exam about two weeks after studying. Got my results and was pleased, one exam down one more to go for prereq.

The following two weeks i spent studying Microbiology. After doing both practice exams with studying between of course I set a test date to keep myself on track. Today was that day and am glad to have it over with.

My goal by the end of this week is to finish INL and move on to my first nursing exam.

Yeah, I did the Human Growth and Development CLEP, it wasn't bad. I signed up with instantcert.com and did a lot of their "flashcards" for the exam. If you sign up with that site, search for a discount coupon first — there is usually one for $5 out there.

Just looking back at your posts, you finished the FCCAs in April and 3 months later are done your CPNE. I could only be so fortunate as to get a spot so quickly. I am finished with the FCCA ( hopefully) in a little over 3 weeks and will submit my CPNE app right away. There is hope!

OMG!!! Completely forgot about instantcert! I used them for all remaining prereq exams for EC's BSN! Loved them!!! Passed those courses within days of beginning my studies using those flash cards!

Got the green light from EC to clep it. I'll be trying that website. Hoping to test within the next couple of weeks. Plan is to be done by the time they recieve my cpne results.
