BCTC Fall 2011 new nursing students

U.S.A. Kentucky

Hell everyone,

So far I have been on this website and have found it helpful in preparing for August. However I was unable to find a forum tailored just to Fall 2011 nursing students in which we could discuss what is expected of us and gear up for orientation and so forth. My name is Kiersten. I am 25, currently a massage therapist, and have lived in Lexington for 2 1/2 years now. I'm very excited about becoming an RN and wanted to see if I could connect with some of my future classmates. Hope to talk to you all soon!

What campus are you going to? I am going to be a 2nd year RN student at the Lawrenceburg campus.

I will be at Cooper but I think the requirements are the same so I'd be happy for us all to convene.

Hi. I'll be starting the ADN program at Cooper for the fall semester as well. I'm very excited about it! Is anyone going to the Open House on Wednesday? I will be unable to attend, so if anyone could post the important info they received from the meeting it would be much appreciated!

Specializes in Peds, Med-Surg, Disaster Nsg, Parish Nsg.

Moved to KY Nursing Programs Discussion forum for more responses.

Yes I'm going. I can update you afterwards. Also I wanted to do a lunch date this coming weekend so we can meet each other and talk about everything we need. That might be good for you too. It would likely be on Sunday so let me know if you are interested in joining for that.

Hi KYfan100,

I just wanted to update as I went to the orientation today. They stressed having all of your materials which can all be bought easily through them (or much cheaper through the internet). When they talk about handheld software, electronic package, or itouch codes they are talking about one thing (much to many people's confusion). They also highly recommend that you find a group of people early on that you can study with that have similar study habits. Although your schedule is at all different times of the week consider it to be constructed like Anatomy and Physiology where it all ties together but there is a lecture portion and a lab portion. If you have Wednesday Clinical then you need to show up on Aug 17th at 8am in the Auditorium. If you have Friday Clinical then you DO NOT need to show up until Aug 18th. The first three weeks of school we will not be in clinicals, rather we will be at the school. The second year students also stressed that it is much better to take your co-requisites in the summer (if you can) so that you only concentrate on the nursing courses during the year.

Also, We turned in our immunization records, CPR certification, etc. and will do so again on the first day of class. Let me know if you have any other questions and if you'd like to join us this Sunday for lunch.
