U.S.A. Kentucky

Published

Hi all! Just wanted to see if there are any other BCTC applicants out there. I'm getting super anxious about hearing whether I got in or not, and didn't know if anyone else wanted to discuss our waiting time! Best of luck to everyone. ?

Paperwork turned in and class scheduled! Can't wait to meet my fellow classmates!

So today i went for my first of 3 Hepatitis B series vaccine. Little problem i'm hoping to get verified......the line seven on the cost sheet says "Hepatitis B Series* (or titre)" The star says, *Validation of each of these items is due on the first day of classes." Does this mean documentation that the series has been started? Or does this mean that the series (3 vaccines) must be complete? If so, that is a problem for anyone who has not done their Hep B yet. I did my first today, April 17th. Then you have to wait a month for #2 so I go on May 20th. But then you have to wait 5 months to get the 3rd...meaning October!!!!! I've sent an email to confirm. Please let me know if any of you already know. :wideyed: Get started if you haven't already!!!!

Oh, thanks for sharing this. I will need hepatitis B, so I better get it too. It's not really our fault that this vaccine takes so long to be complete. So I presume this won't be a problem... I hope.

I need all of my immunizations. However, i have an appt. on friday to start all of them!!! I still need to get my scrubs and stethoscope, im just waiting b/c i know its a little expensive. I also have to get a new parking permit for cooper campus. I hate purchasing it, b/c it's like $250 :arghh: I am excited to get started, i really wish we knew where our clinicals will be at? Or what day our lab was on? Lol, i am just trying to prepare and make sure that i have childcare for all of my classes. Im work part time, on the weekends but iv heard a few people advise to not work if you dont have to. I know that we can make it work if i dont work next semester, i just cant decide. Im so excited though! Im ready to get this semester over and hurry through summer break. ( Although i may need to slow down and enjoy my time off, apparently nursing school is hard... :nailbiting: )

Does anyone know how long the hep b is good for? I think I had mine done like 10yrs ago.

Also I remember someone in here talking about there degree major changing in people soft....mine did change today to say nursing. I was a little worried because I have had the financial office lose my paperwork twice now so I wanted to make sure my stuff got processed.

To SarahXBeth, I know how you feel, I am so excited too but also hate paying for Cooper parking, especially with all of the extra expenses. I wish we would hear from our advisors so we could ask more questions. I did get classes scheduled so that was exciting!! Cant wait to meet everyone and get this thing started lol!!!

From what I understand, once you get the hep B vaccine it's good forever. I had mine when I was a sophomore in HS (spring 2000), and when I got hired on at UK this February, they said it was still good, and that I wouldn't have to get it again.

I'm just glad that I don't have to get all of my vaccines again, since I just got the boosters I needed two months ago!

I do have a question about the varicella requirement though. I had the chicken pox when I was 6. Do you all know if I have to get the titer, or, since I have record of having chicken pox, don't have to get anything?

I believe Hep B is good forever too. I also confirmed today that it does not have to be complete but must have documentation that you have started the series and are "in progress". I still cannot register for my classes because it shows my pre-requisites as incomplete---they are in the older system and someone is going to have to manually register me. Is anyone else having this issue or has everyone else been able to register themselves?

As far as the question about varicella, it says documentation needed. UK put on my employee health file "Positive History". I don't know if this takes care of it or if you have to get something from a physician or a titer. I had chicken pox really young as well...like 1981!!! I submitted my form showing "positive history" in the system so I'll let you know if it gets accepted.

So glad that the Hep B shot doesn't have to be completed, only in progress. I started mine in February, I have my second shot next week, and I should be complete in August. I need to find out about all my other shots.

Out of curiosity, where is everyone taking their CPR class at? I need to get that scheduled ASAP.

I took my CPR class at Bluegrass Nurse Aide Training Center, the same place I got my CNA certification. They were awesome for both classes!

I also did my cpr at Bluegrass Nurse aid, (also where i completed my CNA). It was like a couple hours... no big deal.

And, it's only $60 for the class... Everywhere else I looked was more expensive

I am taking my CPR at First Response of the Bluegrass. UK pays for it for me there. I registered for the online CNA course with Bluegrass Nurse Aide Training Center. I will do my skills lab on June 8th and 9th and the clinicals on June 22nd and 23rd. How difficult are the clinicals? The people who registered me were wonderful.
