BCTC Fall 2013 Applicants

U.S.A. Kentucky

Published

Hi all! Just wanted to see if there are any other BCTC applicants out there. I'm getting super anxious about hearing whether I got in or not, and didn't know if anyone else wanted to discuss our waiting time! Best of luck to everyone. ?

I did the 2 week fast class there, and our clinicals were at Thompson Hood Veterans center in Wilmore. They were awesome there. It did however, make me realize that I do not want to work in a nursing home when I graduate. I loved all of the ladies at BGNATC. They were great instructors!

So, I submitted my University Health compliance form which states that I had my flu vaccine administered on 10/4/2012. It clearly says, "Today's Actions taken: Influenza Vaccine 0.5ml administered in the Left deltoid." I downloaded the form onto the www.certifiedbackground.com site and today it said Rejected. The last time I checked, flu vaccine isn't given during the spring season. Hmmm....does anyone have any ideas? I have highlighted the verbage on the form and resubmitted it; we'll see what happens I guess. Another question...was the certified background site required?

I'm not sure that we HAVE to load our vaccination records onto the certified background site... I think our packet says that part is optional but that we have to do our background check through there, though you would think that since some of us work at UK, they could get our reports from there. Did the site say it was rejected because of the flu shot, or something else?

Each thing you do has to have a document uploaded. So I uploaded the same document multiple times. So, for the TDAP, it said complete (the document i submitted for that one though had the sticker off of the vaccine). All of the others say "In Process" but the Influenza one, specifically, said Rejected. The only thing I can think is that since it was 2012 that it's not considering it done. But, that was during the last flu season and should be good for me until October 2013. I just highlighted and resent hoping that perhaps they just overlooked that portion of my health compliance form.

Yee haw! I guess they overlooked it because they have now changed it from Rejected to Complete :woot:

Has anyone been able to buy books yet?

I keep looking online at the bookstore, and they only have books for the summer term available. I'd say once school is out that we'll be able to buy our books. I generally don't get my books until I can charge them to my financial aide, which isn't until about 2 weeks before class starts.

I would just really love to have an estimate aside from the cost sheet. Does anyone know if the amount on the estimated cost sheet is for the entire program or per semester?

required? Hey! Congrats I'm a first year student, and regarding the flu vaccine... Due to the fact flu vaccines change every year, the one from the last October will expire around the 6th/7th week of the school-year anyway. The flu vaccine is the only vaccine we did not have to have until sometime in October, as they understand that is when you can receive the optimal vaccine for the year.

I'm not sure about the certified background site, as we had to turn our vaccines in to the nursing office, and the only website we used prior to school starting was verified credentials for our thorough background check.

They change things every year, so I can only give you an "experienced" answer...

First semester is more than the rest (I spent 1140 last fall)

Each semester you will buy Kaplan--$120 X 4 (they'll explain it in detail day one)

2nd semester we bought our med-surg book (it will be your primary text from then on)

Brunner and Suddarth's Textbook of Medical Surgical Nursing VitalSource and PrepU Access Cards Package: Suzanne C. Smeltzer: 9781469823782: Amazon.com: Books

2nd semester we also needed our mental health nursing book

Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing: Concepts of Care in Evidence-Based Practice: Mary Townsend: 9780803627673: Amazon.com: Books

Each semester you will need a skills kit (price will vary depending on supplies)

You'll also need to purchase peds, maternal newborn, pharm 2.

Hope that helps

Just FYI- $50 and accommodating hours

"So today i went for my first of 3 Hepatitis B series vaccine. Little problem i'm hoping to get verified......the line seven on the cost sheet says "Hepatitis B Series* (or titre)" The star says, *Validation of each of these items is due on the first day of classes." Does this mean documentation that the series has been started? Or does this mean that the series (3 vaccines) must be complete? If so, that is a problem for anyone who has not done their Hep B yet. I did my first today, April 17th. Then you have to wait a month for #2 so I go on May 20th. But then you have to wait 5 months to get the 3rd...meaning October!!!!! I've sent an email to confirm. Please let me know if any of you already know. :wideyed: Get started if you haven't already!!!!"

We had to have our first of the three prior to class.
