BCIT September 2017 Intake

Published

Hey everyone. I've seen some threads from previous intakes, but none for this upcoming one, so I thought I'd make my own.. and hopefully receive some responses.

Just wondering how many of you have applied already? And with what GPA, prior education (# of credits, past degrees), and work/volunteer hours or experience you are applying with.

Also what grades have you gotten in the pre-reqs?

I myself have got 35 credits at SFU with a 3.14 GPA..

I've been volunteering at a care home for a few months now.

My grades:

Chem 11 - 96%

Pre Calc 12 - 77%

ENGL 1177 - B

Anatomy and Physiology (1) - A-

Anatomy and Physiology (2) - B+

Psychology - A

For general education I got A's in both classes.

I just thought it would be helpful to see what others are applying with, so we can get a sense of our own standing and where we need to improve on. I hope in this thread we can all exchange tips and get to know eachother incase we do all end up going to BCIT together :)

Hey everyone!

Didn't realize this post was actually getting any comments..

I unfortunately have not been accepted to the program. I am so sad :( I knew it would be very competitive but I remained confident that I would at least get shortlisted. I'm wondering if you all could share what you got in with (degrees/credits, grades and experience) so that I know what to improve myself on when I apply for the next intake. Any tips?? Did any of you already complete LIBS 7001 and 7002 before applying?

I will continue doing more classes at SFU so I have more credits done. I also will continue volunteering to build up more hours.

Im sorry to hear that summer :( I hope you will get in on the next intake!

Im currently in my fourth year of my undergraduate degree in health science finishing up my bach. of science degree.

Credit wise i'm approximately nearing 130ish credits (could graduate but need one more required course) if i remember right.... my grades are decent at 3.45 (first year general science wrecked me) while my upper division grades are 3.70.

Experience wise, I volunteer a lot with SFU Lets Talk Science and at my local senior community center.

For the application regarding experience... I didn't put the numbers of hours I've accumulated like most people. I just wrote the start date to present.

No I did not complete LIBS 7001 or 7002, the english that i took at SFU were ENGL 102W, ENGL 104W, and HSCI 319W (ethics heavy writing course).

Hope that helps!

Sorry to hear that u didn't get in Summer. I have about 120ish credit and I worked as a lifeguard for 3-years. I took libs 7002.

Hope this else!

Ps- does anybody know how many applied

Hey Summer,

I have just graduated from my bachelor's of kin from UBC. I have a lot more credits than I should because I did 3 years of English/French before switching into kin. Other than that I volunteered with rch for a year in the renal unit and have worked as a care aid and a mental health worker for about 3 years. I haven't done any courses from BCIT.

From what I understand from past students they don't care about your schooling too much, but they do want you to show you care. So work in the field if possible, plenty of companies such as strive, CLS, possAbilities hire under the name of community counsellor but essentially your duties are those of a care aid. I think it really helps to work in the field.

Also chin up you get points for reapplying so you're likely to get in next time you apply!

I have been short listed as well and have just completed the online quiz that was required. I have completed on year in a psychiatric nursing program at KPU and have completed one year at SFU, and a part time (English) class at BCIT. I volunteered at Surrey Memorial Hospital for around 2 years and also at a long term care home for around 2.5 years. My GPA is around 3.62.

How do you guys know your GPA? UBC is all percentages and the gpa scale is 4.3 I applied with 82%

I just completed the online quiz and, for some reason, I didn't keep in mind about the 250 word limit, so now I am a bit worried about my exceeding the word count.. does anybody know if the word count should be strictly followed? :nailbiting:

I'm not sure why that is, but at kpu, sfu and bcit they all gave me a letter grade with my gpa on a 4.33 scale on my transcripts. I estimate that an 82 is around a 3.68ish.

Hey guys, I'm shortlisted as well. This is my second time applying and being shortlisted. I have 111 credits from UBC and kind of dated volunteer work. For grades, I have a 73% cumulative. I'm not sure about the grade conversion from ubc -> bcit, but I do know that last intake successful applicants had at least 3.00 cumulative (bcit scale) and there was over 300 applicants. Best of luck to everyone.. í ½í¸Š

Hey has anyone done the quiz yet? I just finished mine and I almost ran out of time so I did not spend a lot of time thinking about the last question. Ugh So nervous hopefully it works out for all of us.

Well they take that into consideration...

Hey guys, im writing my quiz this weekend. Any tips on keeping track of the word count? are you able to open up a word doc to check? thanks super nervous; just wanting to get in!
