Anyone else planning to take the LIBS courses prior to applying?

Wow your application looks amazing well! If I may ask, is this your 1st time applying? If not, did you possibly get any feedback from previous applications? What did the advisors say?

Thanks, it's my second time applying. The first time I applied for January 2019, I didn't realize at the time that I could have sent a form along with my transcript that basically said I met all the requirements for my Bachelors of Science, so I didn't end up getting max points for having a degree. I also didn't do too hot on the questionnaire. But overall my application was solid.

Hi everyone! Has anyone heard back from BCIT yet? My friend told me that her cousin's girlfriend was just accepted for the September intake... But I thought the process was that you either get a non offer email or make it to the questionnaire stage?

I feel like you will definitely make it in this time, especially now that you can gain maximum points for having a Bachelors! For the questionnaire, was it more about phrasing what you did in your roles or the actually jobs you did?

From what I know, there are 3 stages for BCIT.

Stage 1: Filling out the application and meeting all the requirements.

Stage 2: Questionnaire.

Stage 3: Accepting your offer and making the payment to secure your spot, getting all mandatory vaccinations, criminal record check, etc.

During the January 2019 intake, the application deadline was August 31 and people got their stage 2 email during the first week of October (if I am remembering correctly). So, it is still a little early as I would assume people would start seeing those emails at the start of April. And yes, if your friend's cousin's girlfriend was accepted for the September intake already, then I would be a little surprised, assuming this is their first time applying. But I'm not admissions so I wouldn't know her situation.

The questionnaire was more like general interview questions. They would ask you something and you would write on it, like for example, "Tell us a time you had to use your leadership skills" or something along the lines and you have a box to write your statement in 200 words or less. They also look at your grammar.

Thanks for your reply! I felt like I was the only one who did not receive an email or anything. I was a bit skeptical about her news as it seems too early... Ooooof, fingers crossed!!

That makes a lot sense! Thank you for the amazing detailed response, I really appreciate the time you're taking to answer my questions. I will definitely pass on this information for future applicants!

Just one more question since our applications are very similar, is that for the questionnaire, why do you think that you didn't do so great on the questionnaire? Did the advisers feedback say that it was more based upon how you wrote or the sheer content, in terms of the connections you made or a little bit of both? Or did other things come into play like your entire application?

I definitely know you're going to make it in this time!!!

If you have ever done the UBC personal profile that is required for applications into certain programs, the questionnaire is essentially that. And for me, I think its the context of how I wrote it, but I'm not 100% sure because the only feedback they give us is the score. There isn't really a right or wrong answer, its more about how you write it.

IMO I think short and concise is better than long, wordy answers.

So basically what happens is, BCIT will rank you based on

1) Academic status (more credits/holding a Bachelor's will be given more points)

2) Work experience (health related work experienced is ranked higher)

3) GPA (both cGPA/pre-req GPA)

and then if you make the cutoff, you will be offered the questionnaire, in which they will rank you again and offer the best 64 applicants spots, with the rest going on the waitlist?

Interesting that BCIT doesn't take into consideration volunteer experience (unless it is a tie) because honestly most students cannot afford to work in the hospital or clinics due to academic obligations.

Essentially yes. This is a part of an email that I received from a program advisor:

Quote

The Nursing department considers the following qualities of an applicant:

Applicants are ranked on a point system in the application review. Highest points to academics, second to work experience, and third to post-secondary GPA.

· Academic qualifications. In recent competitions, competitive applicants had a minimum of 60 post-secondary credits

· Work experience. General work experience is reviewed. Having health related work experience can enhance an application but it is not required.

· Overall GPA. Having a good GPA (e.g. 3.0 and above) may enhance an application.

Volunteer experience is not part of the ranking process, however, if all else is equal it may help to set the applicant apart.

If you read up on work experience, it isn't mandatory to have health related work experience, it just looks better on the application.

Right! Good luck to us!!

I think I am most nervous about my cGPA since it is lower than 3.0, but since you got into the 2nd stage with it being similar to mine, I hope I can get in as well...

Based on what you said for your application, I would assume that you would make it to Stage 2 for sure!
